Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

ANAS Presidium held a meeting with members of ANAS Bureau of the Division Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences (DPMTS).

The meeting was attended by the President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh, Vice-president of ANAS, academician Rasim Alguliyev, Acting Academician-Secretary of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov, Academician-Secretary of DPMTS, academician Nazim Mammadov and members of the Bureau.

Stressing that, DPMTS is the leading scientific Division of the Academy, academician Akif Alizadeh said that, during the last five years, the Division has been conducting research aimed on studying new areas of science.

Saying that the Academy has high hopes for the department in the modernization of the scientific and technical infrastructure, the head of ANAS noted that, it is necessary to expand the cooperation of the department with foreign scientific centers in order to increase the fruitfulness of scientific research and strengthen international scientific relations. Academician instructed all the scientific institutions of the department to conduct research in new areas of science together with other institutes, and when selecting topics for dissertations of doctoral students and dissertationists, he would prefer areas that meet the requirements of modern science.

Speaking on ICT usage in scientific activities, academician Akif Alizadeh called for expanding research in software engineering, control systems, robotization technologies, and biophysics, studying longevity and neurodegenerative diseases through the use of modern technologies, and also instructed relevant institutions to take active participation in ensuring the information security of the country and training in this area.

Academician also spoke on issues which were discussed during a meeting with the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Alexander Sergeyev, during his official visit to our country last month and about the signed agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the two organizations.

Academician stressed that, the priority area of joint research is the study of mineral resources, biodiversity and environmental problems of the Caspian Sea.

President of ANAS said that, important measures had been taken to create favorable conditions for the activities of the production institutions of High Technologies Park of the Academy to develop projects of the Center for Strategic Scientific Research of strategic importance and to increase its intellectual, military-scientific and technical potential.

Academician noted that, scientific and technical support for more development of activities in the above-mentioned areas should be implemented by DPMTS.

At the meeting other upcoming tasks were discussed.
