Azerbaijan and Korean archeologists have signed a joint cooperation agreement

The Memorandum of Understanding on Archeology was signed by the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, Seoul National University and SEBA (Seoul-Baku) Azerbaijan-Korea Cultural Association Association.

Officers of the institute and SEBA, as well as Korean Ambassador to Azerbaijan Li Jae-Vung and professor of the Seoul National University Kim Jong-Il attended the ceremony.

Opening the event, SEBA chairman, PhD in Biology Ruhangiz Heydarov said that Azerbaijani and Korean archeologists have been conducting joint researches in different historical periods in Gabala for more than 10 years.

She underlined the successful foreign policy of the country's leadership has opened wide opportunities for international research.

The director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Maisa Rahimova gave the guests information about the enterprise. She noted that today there are more than 10 international archeological expeditions in our country and the results of the research are published in the world-renowned scientific magazines. The scientist said that over the past decade, they have been conducting research, restoration and conservation of monuments with Korean experts.

Kim Jong-il, professor of the Seoul National University, said Azerbaijan was rich in archaeological monuments of great importance for world science and said the results of the research in Gabala prove this.

During the event, the sides also exchanged views on the prospects of the forthcoming joint activity and voiced proposals.

Then a contract was signed between the parties. Under the terms of the contract, it is envisaged to continue research for the next 3 years, to include research plans, compilation of reports on mutual consultations and consensus, joint publication of archeological findings and results, and involvement of young specialists and students in researches.
