Heydar Aliyev Center held the closing ceremony of 31stInternational Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) on August 10.
At the beginning of the event, a video was shown dedicated to the arrival in Baku of local and international organizing committees of the 31st International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2019) in February this year. The Minister of Education, Chairman of the “IOI 2019” Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the participants on the completion of the Olympiad, thanked the organizers, the global sponsor of the event the Acer Company and everyone who participated in this process for the high level of organization of the competition.
Stressing the importance of mastering knowledge and skills in the field of ICT, AR Minister of Education spoke on the widespread introduction of information and communication technologies in the field of education in our country. He noted that, every young person is able to change the world and make it better. Innovation also plays an important role. Stressing that Azerbaijan is a multicultural country, the Minister of Education expressed confidence that the participants of the Olympiad within a week got acquainted with the culture, music and cuisine of Azerbaijan. Noting that the Ministry of Education attaches great importance to the teaching of information technology, Jeyhun Bayramov said that, the “IOI 2019” Olympiad will contribute to the development of ICT in Azerbaijan. In conclusion, the Minister congratulated the winners of the Olympiad and wished success to all participants.
At the event, participants were awarded the Olympiad bronze, silver and gold medals. 28 participants of the Olympiad awarded gold, 54 - silver, 81 - bronze medals. The participant who showed the highest result - US team member Benjamin Gee, along with a gold medal, AR Education Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also presented a special award.
“IOI” President Greg Lee read the final declaration of the International Olympiad.
At the ceremony, it was announced that the next competition will be held July 19-26, 2020 in Singapore. Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov and Honorary Chairman of “IOI 2019”, Rector of the ADA University Hafiz Pashayev handed over the flag of the International Olympiad in Informatics to Professor of Singapore National University TAN Sun Teck.
Then, a documentary on our country was demonstrated. The event continued with an artistic part.
Recall that the Vice-president of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, academician Rasim Alguliyev was a member of the “IOI 2019” Organizing Committee. Note that that, the International Olympiad in Informatics, held for the first time in Azerbaijan, was attended by official delegations of more than 600 students, teachers and experts from 88 countries and regions, including the Azerbaijani team.
The International Olympiad in Informatics, which is of great importance to the country, is held with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ADA University, Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan and other government agencies.
