It was noted that, the historical aspects of carpet weaving, its artistic features and the role of carpet and weaving art in the worldview, traditions and everyday life of people will be discussed.
Academician-Secretary of the Division of Humanitarian Sciences Teymur Karimli said that, carpet weaving is one of the most common types of decorative art. Carpets have historically been an integral part of the life of the Azerbaijani people, as well as a striking example of national culture.
Speaking on the history of carpet weaving in our country, academician T.Karimli noted that, at present the state pays great attention to the further development of this art. According to him, today Azerbaijani carpets are recognized all over the world. In 2010, Azerbaijani carpets were included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Academician T.Karimli noted that the ”Pazirig” carpet, which is the oldest carpet found in the Pazirig mounds in Altai (2500 years ago), was also woven in Karabakh - in ancient Barda. The scientist, speaking on the Shahabbashi carpets belonging to the Ardebil group of the Tabriz carpet center of Azerbaijan, noted that, the name of these carpets is connected with the name of the fifth ruler of the Safavid state, Shah Abbas I (1587-1629).
The conference delivered papers: on “The Image of Heydar Aliyev in Azerbaijani Carpets”, OJSC “Azerkhalcha” is the guardian of Azerbaijani carpet art”, “The main directions of the development of the Karabakh carpets school and palace carpets of Karabakh”, etc.
It was noted that the patterns on the carpets, which are closely related to the history and life of the Azerbaijani people, provide valuable information on how they were woven. The great leader Heydar Aliyev has taken important steps to improve and develop carpet weaving.
In the 70s of the XX century, was opened the Carpet Museum in Azerbaijan and the necessary conditions for researchers engaged in carpet weaving were created. After the second independence of Azerbaijan and the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to political power, began a new stage in the development of carpet weaving.
It was noted that, one of the most memorable moments of the activities of AR President Ilham Aliyev in this area is the creation of the Azerhalcha Open Joint-Stock Company in 2016. Created under the initiative of the head of state, “Azerkhalcha” OJSC allowed to realize several strategic goals.
