On December 24, next meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences was held at the Main building of ANAS.
Opening the event, academician Fakhraddin Gadirov informed the participants of the meeting's agenda.
Then the annual report of the Institute of Geography on the results of scientific and scientific-organizational activity in 2019 was listened. The director of the enterprise, academician Ramiz Mammadov, said that studies were carried out within the “State Program on Industry Development in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2015-2020”, "State Program on Development of Satellite Remote Sensing Services in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2022", “Development Concept Azerbaijan 2020: Vision to the Future", "Strategic Roadmap for National Economy and Key Sectors of Economy" and research programs recommended by the Presidium of ANAS, at the Institute of Geography.
Researches have been carried out in the direction of a comprehensive study of the Caspian ecosystem, the role of climatic factors in climate change and desertification, anthropogenic degradation and restoration of flat soil vegetation, economic, geographical, and demographic problems of the regions, as well as the current status of the population of the republic, Ramiz Mammadov said.
He also noted that, as a result of the study, the climate boundaries of arid and semiarid zones in the country were identified and the appropriate timetable and map were prepared.
Researches were reflected in 1 journal, 1 book, 9 monographs, 3 tutorials, 2 textbooks, 4 methodical aids, 3 subject programs and 2 atlas, as well as 7 out of 152 articles of employees were published on the “Web of Science" indexed scientific database, stressed out academician.
The reporter also provided information on ICT trainings at the Institute of Geography this year, international ties and grant projects of the institution, activities for training scientific staff, and others.
Thereafter discussions were held around the report, and the report was unanimously approved.
