On January 27, an event dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scientist, Honored Scientist, State Prize Doctor of Historical Sciences Sara Ashurbeyli was held at the National Museum of Azerbaijan History of ANAS.
During the event, director of the museum academician Naila Valikhanly spoke about the rich scientific activities of the historian and noted that Sara khanum is one of the domestic representatives of the intelligentsia who devoted her live to serving Azerbaijani science, history and culture. She was a connoisseur of the history of the peoples of the Near and Middle East and the first researcher of the history of Baku. The scientist devoted her whole life to the study of the history of Baku (Icheri Sheher) and the State of the Shirvanshahs.
The director of the museum brought to the attention that Sara Ashurbeyli was also a talented artist and musician. For her talent, she was elected a member of the Union of Azerbaijan Artists in 1946.
Naila Valikhanli recalled that the outstanding scientist worked in the National Museum of Azerbaijan History as the head of the Department of Medieval History. She worked as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Oriental Studies, a scientific secretary, a senior fellow and a leading fellow at the Institute of History, from 1993 until the end of her life, the scientist worked as a leading researcher at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy.
It was noted that Sara Ashurbeyli was awarded the highest award of Azerbaijan - the Order of "Shohrat" in 1996 on the eve of the 90th anniversary. She is known worldwide as a fundamental researcher of medieval Absheron. He is the author of the books “Essays on the History of Baku”, “Economic and Cultural Relations of Azerbaijan and India in the Middle Ages”, and “History of the Shirvanshahs State”.
The speakers further spoke about the contribution of the scientist to Azerbaijan science and shared their memories of it.
Finally, participants of the event were acquainted with the exhibition of objects belonging to Sara Ashurbeyli.
