On February 13, by the organization of the Azerbaijan State Economic University (UNEC) and Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the support of the Ministries, Chinese scientific and technological alliance “One Belt, One Way”, a two-day international conference on the topic "Digital economy: current challenges and real opportunities”, was kicked off.
The UNEC Rector, Professor Adalat Muradov, who spoke at the event, spoke about the relevance of the topic of the conference. It was noted that the digital economy and the Industry 4.0 concept associated with it brought serious and completely new challenges to the agenda related to the future development of the global economy, sustainable, innovative and competitive development of the national economy. The digital revolution, subjecting our life and society to an unprecedented high pace of large-scale transformation, creates very broad opportunities.
The rector emphasized that the agreement reached during the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in the Davos Economic Forum on the opening of the Regional Center of the Davos Economic Forum in Baku is a clear evidence of the importance attached to the fourth industrial revolution, including high technology and digitization in Azerbaijan.
Deputy Minister of Economics Niyazi Safarov brought to attention that the economy of Azerbaijan serves as an impetus for the development of all areas of the country. The rapid development of the digital revolution requires taking serious steps to develop the digital economy. Discussions, exchange of views held at the conference will serve to achieve important results in this area.
Deputy Minister of Education Idris Isayev emphasized that bringing the education system in line with the requirements of the modern economy against the backdrop of the dynamics of economic development is one of the important tasks. The transformation of educational systems into an integral part of the global value chain of national economies in the period of globalization further enhances the relevance of these relationships. The definition of a new framework that forms economic requirements against the background of modern technological development forms the basis of the important realities of the day, and the establishment of the processes of study and training according to these requirements is the responsibility at all levels of the education system. In order to answer the requirements of the digital revolution in Azerbaijan, important steps have been taken in the field of education. A digital skills project is being implemented, covering 123 schools in 6 regions of the country. More than 70 thousand schoolchildren were involved in this project. The aim of the project is to identify digital abilities among students.
Elmir Velizadeh, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communication, and High Technologies, noted in his speech that the main role in the development of the digital economy is the modernization of infrastructure and the creation of opportunities to meet growing needs, the introduction of modern technologies, the increase in the number of Internet users, and the expansion of electronic commerce.
After the opening ceremony, reports were delivered.
Note that on the second day of the international conference, scientists will speak on the topic of the conference and discussions will be carried out.
The conference will also include panel presentations of information technology companies.
