Within the framework of the Start-up project, Institute of Biological Resources of the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS held a scientific and practical workshop on the topic "Studies of petrophilic vegetation in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic" with the participation of first and second year students of the Faculty of Biology of Nakhchivan State University.
At the event, head of the Department of Plant Systematics, Ph.D. in Biology Namig Abbasov informed students about petrophilic plants and noted that these plants, generalized in geobotany under the term “petrophil”, are mainly distributed in rocky and rocky areas. In the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 16 species of petrophilic vegetation are common.
It is noted that the rocky-stony vegetation of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is characteristic of the highlands of the Lesser Caucasus and can serve as a reserve for the gene pool of many useful plants. A detailed study of such a vegetation cover will yield new valuable scientific and practical results.
Then, students visited the Institute's Biochemical Research Laboratory, Department of Zoological Research, Herbarium Fund and Museum of Nature.
