On February 19, the regular meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Economics of ANAS was held. At the meeting, chaired by the director of the institute, Professor Nazim Imanov, the “Trends in the Development of Entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan” and the tasks arising from the speech of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at a conference on the results of the first year of the implementation of the “State Program for the Socio-Economic Development of Regions” were discussed.

During the event, a report was made by a senior researcher at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Monopoly Regulation, PhD in Economics, associate professor Mahir Zeynalov. According to him, increasing the role of entrepreneurship in ensuring sustainable economic development in Azerbaijan, especially turning small and medium-sized businesses into a key driving factor, is one of the priorities of economic reforms carried out by President Ilham Aliyev. It was noted that, speaking at a conference on the results of the first year of the implementation of the “State Program for the Socio-Economic Development of the Regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023,” the head of state emphasized the priority areas for entrepreneurship in the country.

In his report, Mahir Zeynalov spoke about the real results of successful economic reforms and support for entrepreneurship in the country. He noted that reforms to improve the business environment in Azerbaijan stimulate the development of entrepreneurship in the country.

The speaker also introduced the World Bank's “Doing Business 2020” report, which notes that Azerbaijan is among the twenty most reformist countries in 2019. He noted that reforms should be continued in the country, in the coming years the economy of Azerbaijan should be even more liberalized, and the business one should be improved.

Finally, extensive discussions were held and questions were responded.
