Nakhchivan Division of ANAS has held a scientific conference on topic “Armenian vandalism: Khojaly tragedy” in connection with the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy.

In advance, the memory of the victims of the tragedy was honored with a minute of silence.

Speaking at the event, academician chairman Ismayil Hajiyev said that this act of genocide, committed with particular and incredible cruelty, serves the policy of military occupation of Armenia and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijan: “613 civilians, including 106 women, were killed as a result of the massacre, 63 children and 70 elderly people, and 8 families were completely destroyed.”

Speaking about the work done to bring the realities of the tragedy to the international community, Ismayil Hajiyev said that the political and legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide was given after the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to power. As a result of the initiative and efforts of the great leader, after the corresponding decision of the Milli Majlis, February 26 is marked as the day of the Khojaly genocide.

The scientist noted that the policy pursued by the national leader Heydar Aliyev in this direction is continued by the head of state Ilham Aliyev. The international information campaign “Justice for Khojaly!”, Initiated by the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, plays a special role in this matter. The Khojaly tragedy has already been reflected in the decisions and resolutions of many countries and international organizations.

Ismayil Hajiyev said that scientists and intellectuals also have an important responsibility to bring the truth about our country to the international community.

Then, lectures on “Path leading to the Khojaly tragedy”, “The activities of Armenian terrorist organizations in the Khojaly tragedy”, “Khojaly tragedy: a crime against humanity” were listened.
