ANAS scientific institutions held memorial events on the 28th anniversary of Khojaly genocide

In connection with the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, a number of scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS, including Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, Radiation Problems, Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry, Chemistry of Additives, Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Manuscripts, Biology, Dendrology, including Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi, Republican Seismological Survey Center, Huseyn Javid's House Museum and National Museum of Azerbaijan History held memorial events.

The events began with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.

During the ceremonies, the Khojaly genocide, one of the greatest tragedies of the XX century, was the continuation of the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide carried out by Armenian nationalists and their patrons against the people of Azerbaijan for years. It was noted that because of the genocide 633 children, 106 women and 70 elderly people were killed and 613 residents of Khojaly were killed and 8 families were completely destroyed.

It was emphasized that the political-legal assessment of these events was given after the second return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to power, and on February 26, 1994, following the relevant decision of the Milli Majlis on the initiative of the great leader, Khojaly genocide was declared national mourning day.

The commemorative events also focused on the work done to expose the Armenian slander and the genocide of Azerbaijanis to the world community. It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev pursues consistent and principled policy in this area. As a result of diplomatic activity, the two countries recognized the events in Khojaly as a genocide, 11 countries, including 22 states of the United States as a massacre. It was noted that "Justice for Khojaly!" was initiated by Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva. The international awareness campaign also plays an important role in spreading the truth about the Khojaly genocide.
