Next video conference within the framework of the closed group “Archaeologists in Quarantine”

In the framework of the closed group “Archaeologists in Quarantine”, created by employees of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS on the social network Facebook, video conferences continue to be held.

The guest of the next video conference was the head of the Department of Archeology of the Ancient Period of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of the Nakhchivan Division, ANAS corresponding member Veli Bakhshaliyev.

The event was dedicated to the theme "Monuments of Nakhchivan of the Neolithic and Chalcolitich ages.”

Analyzing the materials discovered during the research, ANAS corresponding member Veli Bakhshaliyev spoke about the general and characteristic features of the Nakhchivan monuments of the Neolithic and Chalcolitich  periods, as well as cultures formed in the southern zones of our country and Iranian Azerbaijan in the corresponding periods.

The speaker noted: “The fact that no monuments of the Neolithic period were found in Azerbaijan without ceramics is due to the fact that extensive archaeological research was not carried out. The most ancient cultures of the Neolithic period with ceramics were formed - Kul-tepe and Shomu-tepe, a culture that was distinguished by its peculiar properties in Karabakh, which had a definite influence on the next stage of development of this period. All this played a role in the development of the subsequent Chalcolitich culture in Azerbaijan. ” He said that in the formation of the Neolithic and Chalcolitich cultures of Azerbaijan, the relationship between Eastern Anatolia and North-Western Iran (Iranian Azerbaijan) played a role.

The scientist also emphasized that the Neolithic cultural layer, discovered during recent studies on the monuments of Nakhchivantepe and Khalaj, opened a new page in the study of culture of this period.

In conclusion, Veli Bakhshaliyev responded numerous questions from the participants.
