An online scientific conference was held in the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of a prominent representative of Azerbaijani literature Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev.

Opening the event, the chairman of the division, academician Ismail Hajiyev, spoke about the significance of the Order of President Ilham Aliyev “On the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev” dated January 31, 2020. Speaking about the life and work of a famous writer, the academician noted that with his artistic work, scientific and theoretical articles, as well as translations, Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev had made a great contribution to the enrichment of our literature. It was reported that, continuing the tradition of realistic prose, Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, along with other prominent prose writers of Azerbaijan, created a number of works that differ in an original, peculiar style. He wrote plays, stories, articles and memoirs, translated samples of Russian and world literature, and also created dramatic works that enriched theatrical art.

Ismail Hajiyev noted that the inclusion of the name of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev on the UNESCO list for the anniversaries of prominent personalities and significant events in 2020-2021 is a clear evidence of the appreciation given to the work of the classic.

Along with the literary and artistic work of the writer, the online conference also spoke about his cultural and social activities and the exceptional merits of Abdurragim bey Akhverdiev in awakening national self-consciousness. It was reported that the rich work of the classic will be studied in the future.

Then the director of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature of the Nakhchivan Division, ANAS corresponding member Abulfaz Guliyev delivered a lecture on “Life and career of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev”, deputy director of the institute for science Professor Huseyn Hashimli on “Drama of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev,” head of the Department of Literary Studies, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Ramiz Gasimov on “The Position of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev in the history of our fiction”, senior researcher of the Department of Music and Theater, PhD in Art Criticism, Associate Professor Alakbar Gasimov on "Plays by Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev on the stage of the Nakhchivan theaters", head of the Department of Linguistics, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Nuray Aliyeva on "Features of the artistic language and style of works by Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev ."
