Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

A group of associate of the Central Scientific Library (CSL) led by Leyla Imanova, director PhD in medical sciences, paid visit to the United Kingdom.

The purpose was to learn experience of the libraries are consistent with a model system of CSL, to familiar with its positive and negative features, including to investigate effective solutions of the problems that arise in the process of ICT needs of the library.

During the visit, several vital meetings were held in the departments of The British Library in London and York cities. Meetings aimed at coordinating of library catalog and electronic databases, registrating the obtained data in a variety of formats, obtaining copies in print and electronic form, cataloging and digitization experience, including familiarity with the activities of the library. Moreover, were exchanged views on the issues of modern library and information survey organization, management etc. The delegation got acquainted with new cataloging standard that provides a full range of hardware and software, modern library management technologies, as well as professional standards for library structure and staff.

Within the visit, discussions on acquisition of data from British Library for “National Digital Memory” on a fee basis, importing the books from the British Library in cooperation with CSL, registering the publishing houses of the country that meet western standards into network list and on various aspects of library work.
