Central Scientific Library of ANAS held educational event for AIDS and hepatitis C.

At the event head of the department of Republican Center for AIDS of Ministry of Health Natig Zulfugarov told about the history, treatment and control of these diseases.

It was noted that the human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV / AIDS) is a disease which is gain as a result of further activity of the person. Drug addiction, an unhealthy way of life, insanitary conditions play an important role in infection and distribution of AIDS. The carrier of this virus in our country was for the first time found in 1987. Rate of distribution of a virus in Azerbaijan is low in comparison with other countries. This disease is generally widespread among the following groups of risk - consumers of injecting drugs, workers of sex - business, and homosexuals.

N.Zulfugarov noted that, currently, one of future challenges is to reduce the number of patients which have passed to the stage of AIDS, minimization of the risk of contracting HIV of mothers and children, the elimination of discrimination against people affected by HIV. To reduce the number of patients which have passed to the stage of AIDS, they should be involved in the treatment process. Despite the fact that drugs for HIV-infected patients are provided free by the government, some patients avoid this treatment.

According to Zulfugarov, in Azerbaijan the number of the people receiving expensive anti-retrovirus therapy (ARV) for treatment of HIV / AIDS infected patient. He noted that, if in the course of treatment medicine won't be taken by the patient twice a month, efficiency of therapy decreases.

Then N. Zulfugarov informed attendees the statistical data connected with problems HIV / AIDS in Azerbaijan following the results of the Republican AIDS center for 2014.

Having informed about virus hepatitis C (HCV), N. Zulfugarov noted that, this virus is one of the 6 of found viruses of hepatitis and HCV is considered the most dangerous. The virus extends by means of blood contact and found in a liver and blood.

In summary to participants were distributed the booklets about prevention of HIV / AIDS, on norms of a healthy and safe way of life.

Next week to be planned the holding a one-day action for the purpose to carry out medical consultation and inspection of employees by doctors of the center.
