Today, in the large conference hall of the Presidium of ANAS, a Special meeting of the Presidium of ANAS was held in connection with the execution of the Order of President Ilham Aliyev “On declaring 2021 “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” in the Republic of Azerbaijan” dated January 5, 2021.

First, the exhibition of books and paintings published in ANAS in the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” was reviewed.

Speaking at the event, President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev noted that 2021 was celebrated in our country as the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” by the relevant Order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The head of ANAS noted the historical significance of the 800th anniversary of the poet, held in 1941, in the field of studying and publishing the works of the great poet, a great thinker with a human mindset Nizami Ganjavi.

After the decision of the outstanding statesman, great leader Heydar Aliyev “On measures to further improve the study, publication and translation of the works of the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi” in 1979, he brought to the attention that a new historical epoch began in our country to study the poet's life and creativity and large-scale measures were implemented. Academician R.Mehdiyev assessed the celebration of Nizami Ganjavi's 840th anniversary in 1981 as one of the important events of the time.

Noting that large-scale events were carried out at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”, the head of ANAS emphasized that, according to the Action Plan approved by the Presidium in 2021, important works were carried out in Azerbaijan and foreign countries.

Academician R.Mehdiyev noted that during the year, large-scale works carried out in the direction of research and promotion of the life and creativity of the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi at ANAS, numerous books published and significant results obtained gave full grounds to hold a Special meeting of the Presidium dedicated to the results of the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”.

Later, in the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”, information was given about the books published by ANAS employees in different languages, and their list was presented.

At the event, ANAS vice-president, academician Isa Habibbeyli made a report on “Azerbaijani discipline of the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi””. He informed about the works done in ANAS within the framework of the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”, the results achieved, as well as the stages of development of the “Year of Nizami” studies.

The speaker noted that the most new stage of studying the heritage of Nizami Ganjavi is connected with the name of the head of state Ilham Aliyev. After the Presidential Decree on the 870th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi, serious steps were taken to promote the great poet in the world in our country and internationally.

I.Habibbayli noted that under the leadership of the President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, 5 poems of Nizami Ganjavi were republished in the Azerbaijani language, which were included in the “Khamsa” and assessed these publications as the greatest contribution of ANAS to the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”.

He said that within the framework of the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”, a total of 68 publications, 45 monographs were published in ANAS, dozens of articles were written, successful projects on promotion of Nizami creativity were implemented with relevant government agencies.

General Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, academician Rafael Huseynov noted that Nizami's creativity is a broad topic that will not fit into a year, and there is a need for in-depth research.

Recently, the scientist spoke about the distortion of facts in examples of Nizami works in miniatures on the website of the famous Museum of England “Victoria and Albert” and voiced a letter addressed to the management of the museum for this purpose.

Then, Academician Irada Huseynova, vice-president of ANAS, noted that at the VII conference “Physics and lyrics” on the theme of “Nizami Ganjavi's heritage and nature” a great place was given to the study of Nizami Ganjavi's creativity from the point of view of modern biology, agrarian, environmental and medical sciences, and the poet's works highlighted numerous valuable scientific ideas on botany, zoology, anatomy, physiology, hygiene.

Then presentation of the “Gold medal named after Nizami Ganjavi of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was held at the meeting.

Taking into account the important results of the Academy, on the recommendation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and in connection with the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” in 2021 under the leadership and direct participation of the President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, the President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev and a scientist of Turkish origin living and working in the USA, professor of the Faculty of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the University of North Carolina, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, member of the US National Academy of Sciences, world-famous scientist Aziz Sancar were awarded the “Gold medal named after Nizami Ganjavi of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.

At the meeting, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev was also awarded the Honorary Decree of ANAS. Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev noted that for the first time he received an Honorary Decree of ANAS and assessed it as the highest assessment of the work of scientists.

At the end, the Honorary Decree of ANAS was presented to the following persons for their special activities in the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” awarded by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS: Academician Arif Hashimov, academician Isa Habibbayli, academician Irada Huseynova, academician Rasim Aliguliyev, academician Fuad Aliyev, academician Rafael Huseynov, academician Teymur Karimli, PhD in Political Sciences Eldar Amirov, corresponding member Nushaba Arasli, corresponding member Namig Jalilov, professor Khalil Yusifli, doctors of philological Sciences Imamverdi Hamidov, Farida Azizova, Mehdi Kazimov, associate professor Sirajaddin Hajiyev, Honored Worker of culture Fakhraddin Aliyev, academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, academician Naila Velikhanli, doctors of philological Sciences Gulbaniz Babakhanli, Maryam Seyidbeyli, Seyfaddin Rzayev, Shafag Alibeyli, Ramazan Gafarli, Elnara Akimova, Aybaniz Aliyeva-Kangarli, associate professor Zahra Allahverdiyeva, corresponding member Ertekin Salamzade, doctor of philosophy Mammad Aliyev and Honored Worker of culture Seyfaddin Mammadvaliyev. A group of scientists and researchers received certificates of Honor of the Departments of Humanitarian and Social Sciences of ANAS.
