ANAS Nakhchivan Branch held event devoted to 70th celebration of Victory

ANAS Nakhchivan Branch held event titled as “Role of Azerbaijan people in achieving victory during 1941-1945 war”.

Event co-organized by ANAS Nakhchivan Branch, Nakhchivan State University, Nakhchivan Teachers’ Institute and “Nakhchivan” University.

The conference was opened by the chairman of Nakhchivan Department, academician Ismayil Hajiyev who drew attention that, Victory was achieved thanks to thousands brave sons and daughters of Azerbaijan, their struggles in divisions, the battles of veterans both in frontline and home front and their sacrifices. The tradition of appreciating victory as an holiday by national leader Heydar Aliyev and continuing by President of the state, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev is the price shown to people’s heroism, he noted.

Chief department of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archaeology, corresponding member of ANAS Vali Bakhshaliyev delivered a lecture on “The bloodiest war in mankind history", scientific secretary of the very institute, PhD in History Yashar Rahimov on “Participation of Nakhchivan people in War of 1941-1945", vice rector of “Nakhchivan” University Ali Yusifov on “Causes and consequences of the 2nd World War", senior lecturer of Nakhchivan State University, PhD in History Abdulla Mustafayev on "Azerbaijanis in the war of 1941-1945", senior lecturer of Nakhchivan Teachers’ Institute, PhD in History Alekber Jabbarov on "Azerbaijanis’ activities at the home front" in the conference.  

According to the data of July 22, 1941, 6492 have been mobilized to the army from Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.  Archive documents prove that 30 thousand of the population living in Nakhchivan at that time was left for the war. 3 fighters from Nakhchivan - Najafgulu Rafiyev (major), Abbas Guliyev and Ghazanfar Akbarov (captain) was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union while Akim Abbasov returned homeland with the rank of general after war.

Noted that, 8 individuals were deserved to the Order of Lenin, Rahim Rahimov to all three degrees of "Shohrat" order, 102 individuals to separate rates of "Shohrat" order, 105 individuals to first and second-tier "Great Patriotic War", 315 of "Red Star", and 42 to "Red flag" orders.
