Final stage of the “VIII Project Olympiad in Informatics” among students was held by joint organization of Institute of Control Systems, Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS, Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of AR, University of the Gafgaz and “Istek” Lyceum on May 8.

Olympics carried out on a regular basis among students since 2008, aims to improve the knowledge and skills of middle school students in the field of ICT. In total, the competition were presented 70 projects by category "Programming", "Web page", "Short Film", "Animation" and "Robot", which only 40 projects have received a pass to the final stage of the competition.

In the competition, along with the students of Baku schools, students from Ganja, Lankaran, Guba and other regions also participated in.

At the opening ceremony of the Olympiad rector of the Caucasus University Ahmet Sanich noted that the University led by him always makes a valuable contribution to the training of professionals in information technology, organizes various competitions and the Olympiads in order to improve training in the field of IT.

The purpose of Project Olympiad in Informatics which was held for the 8th time is to grow interest of high school students to the field of information and communication technologies (ICT), underpin to gain experience, shove them to apply their outputs in practice and to create conditions for professional staff training in the sphere of ICT in the country”, he stated.

Stressing that today the country attaches great importance to the development of new projects in the field of ICT, the director of the Institute of Control Systems, academician Telman Aliyev spoke about the role of young people with innovative thinking in the development of this sector. According to him, the projects submitted for the contest shows the preparation of talented young people in a country with great scientific potential. It brought to the fore the possibility of continuing in the future of projects submitted in the institutions of ANAS.

Noting that the development of the ICT sector in the country is one of the priorities of state policy, the head of Educational Innovation Centre  of the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS Rasmiya Mahmudova reported on the adoption of laws and government programs in this area, the implementation of purposeful works towards the introduction of modern technologies in this sphere, development of the network infrastructure, providing access to information and knowledge.

Senior Consultant, Division for Development of Information Society of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of AR Vugar Hasanov notified the importance of such events and wished students success in their future endeavors.

Next, the students showed their projects to the jury of the Olympiad. The jury for the category "Programming" includes Chief project engineer of IIT of ANAS, PhD in engineering Shafagat Mahmudova, under the category "Short Film" – chief department of Elm TV Khatira Dzhabbarzadeh, in the category of "Web page" - programmer Yousif Sadiyev.

The submitted projects were evaluated according to the criteria established separately for each category. Finally, the winners were awarded prizes, medals and certificates.
