Operating since 2009, Azerbaijan-Japan international archeological expedition continued its work on regular field research in this year.
According to the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the key goal of expedition is to discover the oldest Neolithic settlements in Tovuz - Hajıallamkhanlı and Goytapa. Paleontological and paleobotanical analyzes of the samples taken during research were carried out at the radiocarbon laboratories of the University of Tokyo, one of the world's leading scientific centers in Japan. According to the analysis published in leading scientific journals in the world Hajiallamkhanli was was characterized as the oldest Neolithic settlement in the South Caucasus.
Azerbaijan-Japan archaeological expedition led by chief department of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, head of Tovuz archeological expedition Farhad Guliyev and Tokyo University professor and well-known expert on Asia neolith Yosihiro Nishiyaki are summarizing the work of the current field and are going to explore region’s other Neolithic monuments. It should be noted that within the framework of scientific cooperation with Japan Azerbaijan archeologists have been invited to the opening ceremony of the renewed exhibition of the University of Tokyo next year.
The new archaeological museum exhibition will create special section devoted to Azerbaijan archeology.
