The next meeting of the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held. At the meeting, Vice-President of ANAS, director of the Institute of Literature Academician Isa Habibbayli presented his lecture on topic "The concept for periodization of the history of Azerbaijan literature". He noted that, being related in our nation's cultural and intellectual level and socio-historical events of the each era, Azerbaijan literature has passed the way of development, enriched and formed. The article conducts characteristics of development processes in the direction of periodization of the literature history in 10 stages.

According to the Isa Habibbayli, during post-independence era of Azerbaijan, periodization principles of literature had kept its position by the principles adopted during the Soviet period just only having slight amendments, serious steps have not been taken in this area. Within passing 23 years, as in other humanitarian and social sciences, specifiying the periodization directions of Azerbaijan literature also revealed itself as a matter of urgent problem. While periodizing centuries-old history of Azerbaijan literature, principles of civilization factor, realities of literary-historical processes, literary currents and the idea of Azerbaijanism have been scientifically grounded by the scientist.

New concept for periodization of the history of Azerbaijan literature covers the following stages: Ancient Azerbaijan literature, Literature of the early Renaissance, Azerbaijan Renaissance literature, Azerbaijan literature of the Medieval Ages, Azerbaijan literature of the early new era, Elightment realism era of Azerbaijan literature, Azerbaijan literature in the era of National Democratic Movement, Socialist realism stage in Azerbaijan literature, Azerbaijan literature in the early new era and era of transition, Independence era in Azerbaijan literature.

As a result of application of a new periodization concept, chronology of Azerbaijan literary-cultural ideas could be more clearly and systematically studied and promoted, expressed his confidence Isa Habibbayli and stressed out the scientific relevance of the article in this regard.

By the decision of the Presidium of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli’s lecture on topic "The concept for periodization of the history of Azerbaijan literature “ has been approved. Oversight of the decision was entrusted to president of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh.

Meeting has decided to celebrate Academician Mikayil Useynov’s 110th, corresponding members of ANAS Yashar Garayev’s 80th, Ertekin Salamzadeh’s 50th, Maharramov Saleh's 50th anniversaries and to make structural changes in the Academic Councils of the Institutes of Radiation Problems and Economics.

In closing, some staff issues were discussed.
