Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On October 15, the hotel "Fairmont Baku Flame Towers" hosted the 1st Azerbaijan conference on sustainable development and corporate social responsibility (Baku CSR Conference-2015).

The aim of the conference is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current situation in the country, as well as enhancing dialogue and cooperation among the various agencies, private and non-governmental organizations for the development of this sector.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Vice President for Economic Affairs of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Suleyman Gasimov said that one of the main goals of the modern globalized society is to improve the socio-economic development, address environmental issues and ensure conservation and sustainable development, expected to crises.

Gasimov noted that the conference once again shows the importance of the issues of improving the efficiency of the economy in Azerbaijan, protection of the environment and enhance social responsibility. It was noted that today, due to the direction of oil revenues to the development of non-oil sector to the sustainable development of all sectors of the economy.

Then was listened the report of the Director and founder of "Kaleidoscope Futures | CSR International" Wayne Visser on "Sustainable sphere: fundamental changes in business, leadership, and innovation."

Then rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Academician Urkhan Alakbarov made a presentation on the topic "Effective management for the sake of sustainable development: achievements of Azerbaijan in the reports of international organizations." Academician noted that the United Nations and UNESCO have declared academic year in the field of sustainable human development in the years 2005-2014. In Azerbaijan, this process began in 2000 according to the strategy adopted by the great leader Heydar Aliyev. And in 2003, the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan for the first time in the world published textbook for secondary schools devoted to sustainable human development.

The event was also made presentation director of the Institute for Scientific Research on Economic Reforms of the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan Vilayat Veliyev, vice-president of “BP-Azerbaycan” Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli, who noted that the 1st Azerbaijan conference on sustainable development and corporate social responsibility by joining together the leading domestic companies as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations, is to create more opportunities for the study of domestic and foreign experience in this area.

At the plenary session of the conference was listened the report of the deputy director for scientific affairs of the Institute of Economics of ANAS, PhD in Economics, Associate professor Allahyar Muradov on "The role of science and innovation in sustainable development." The report noted the important role of science in achieving the current level of development of society.

In the event was carried out an extensive exchange of views on the subject and questions were responded.

In the conference has also been demonstrated exhibition devoted to sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. The exhibition was attended by Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences as well as companies and organizations such as "Azercell", "AccessBank", "ASAN Xidmət", "EY", "FAO", SOCAR, a number of youth organizations and NGOs.

The exhibition, organized by the head of the Division for Relations with International Organizations Department of International Relations of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in history Nurida Guliyeva demonstrated trained scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS, booklets, books, publications of various types of oil and other products, in general, scientific achievements and inventions of the Academy.

The exhibited materials caused great interest on participants.
