“Information system on vegetable genetic resources of Azerbaijan was made”, stated the director of ANAS Institute of Genetic Resources Zeynal Akperov in a meeting of Presidium of ANAS.

Under the scientific guide of the academician Jalal Aliyev for the first time in Azerbaijan formation bases of information space on VGR was developed, the new information retrieval system created and national inventory carried out.

Within information system about 11000 vegetable samples relating to 118 families, 432 species and 847 types which are included into national genetic fund of cultivated plants and their wild relatives were collected and versatily analysed, recommendations about their collecting and restoration were developed.

The report was approved by the Presidium. It was recommended to expand researches. In the meeting the decision on carrying out researches together with the State Committee for Land and Cartography, AR Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, ANAS Department of Biological Sciences for creation of interactive three-dimensional maps reflecting the characteristics of the distribution the vegetable plants and their wild relatives based on the study of biogeography via application of information system and technologies.
