Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Institute of Genetic Resources (IGR) of ANAS hosted for meeting of director of this scientific institute, corresponding member of ANAS Zeynal Akbarov with representative of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) famous scientist, chief scientific secretary of National Academy of Sciences, Academician Alexander Vladimirovich Kilchevsky within anniversary celebrations of the 70th anniversary of ANAS.

Z. Akperov informed the guest about the history and structure of the Institute, conducted scientific research achievements of the Institute scientists in their respective fields of science, as well as the projects implemented jointly with the Belarusian Institutes.

A.V.Kilchevsky, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and long-term cooperation, informed about the improvement of logistical base of scientific research institutions of the Republic of Belarus, in particular, at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences, as well as the establishment of modern laboratories and held studies. In the event was emphasized conducting research using next-generation sequencers at NASB institutes, and also talked about the possibilities of cooperation in the field of integrated and comparative research and effective use of genetic resources for breeding.

A.V.Kilchevsky handed to Z.Akperov certificate of the first Belarusian-Azerbaijani tomato varieties created in cooperation with scientists of IGR regionalized in Belarus. At the meeting it was noted the presence of new projects for collaborative research and the use of plant specimens of the two countries. It was noted that one of these projects was presented to the Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Scientific Fund of the Republic of Belarus.

At the meeting, a decision was made regarding the implementation of projects between institutions of NASB on bio safety of genetically modified plants and genomic technologies, as well as the intensification of cooperation in the exchange of scientific personnel and research results, etc.

Guests are also familiarized with the National Gene Bank, departments and laboratories of IGR, in particular, with the capabilities of the Department of biotechnology.

Academician A.V.Kilchevsky spoke on "Development of genomic biotechnology in the Republic of Belarus" in the seminar, which was held in the auditorium of the Institute, responded numerous questions.
