Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Extensive meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences of ANAS, to discuss research priorities put forward by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the General Meeting, organized on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of ANAS. Opening the meeting President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh introduced the questions on the agenda. Then academician made an extensive report on the scientific priorities put forward by President Ilham Aliyev at the General Meeting. President of ANAS thanked the President of AR on behalf of Azerbaijani scientists, the Academy and the entire scientific community for his great concern for the domestic science.

Academician Akif Alizadeh noted that, at the anniversary event of ANAS, which took place on November 9 this year as a significant event in the cultural life of the republic, President Ilham Aliyev announced the priorities of the national science, due to socio-economic, cultural and spiritual development of the republic . Academician Akif Alizadeh said that the head of state has set such important tasks before national science as conducting basic and applied research in the field of training of the new economic model of the country, including the strengthening of the non-oil sector and increase its export capacity, coordination of the demographic situation in the country with the prospects of socio- economic development and implementation of comprehensive research in this area, the active participation of science in the development of the industry. Academician noted that the Academician-secretary of ANAS of scientific departments should organize a broad discussion of the priorities for the Scientific Council of the Academy institutions and organizations, to prepare proposals, to take the appropriate decisions for their implementation and submit them to the Presidium of ANAS.

The next part of the event continued with performances of scientists who raised various priority areas of development of Azerbaijan science. Academician-secretary of Department of Chemical Sciences of ANAS, Academician Dilgam Tagiyev spoke about the active participation of scientists of Azerbaijan in the process of creating the Chemical Industrial Park, Academician-secretary of Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov - the development of space industry in the country and the use of international scientific expertise in this area, particularly security of the republic of research in the field of high technology, Academician Parviz Mammadov - the further successful continuation of research related to the development of the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan, Director of the Institute of Geography, Academician Ramiz Mammadov - a comprehensive study of the demographic situation in the country from the perspective of social Economic development of the country.

Also at the event were the presentations by Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli of relevant activities with the aim of writing the history of Azerbaijan's independence period on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the state independence of Azerbaijan, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Agrarian Sciences, Academician Garib Mammadov - on ensuring the active participation of science in preserving the country's food security and agricultural development, Academician-secretary of Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Academician Teymur Kerimli - about enhancing studies in the social and human sciences connected with the study of scientific and theoretical foundations and the definition of the fundamental directions of the concept of multiculturalism.

In addition, the director of the Institute of History, correspondent member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov spoke about the problem of informing the world community the truth about Azerbaijan and continuation of successful research in the historical field in order to prevent falsification of the history of Azerbaijan, Director of the Institute of Linguistics, Academician Tofig Hajiyev spoke about the relevant activities for preserving the purity of the Azerbaijani language and the head of the Administrative Department of ANAS, PhD in Political Science Fatali Abdullayev – increasing non-oil sector potential and to ensure the active participation of science in the development of the industry.

At the conclusion of the event a number of employees of the Academy, awarded in honor of the 70th anniversary of ANAS, in accordance with relevant resolutions of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the highest state awards and honors for his merits in the development of domestic science were awarded orders, medals and diplomas. Academician Akif Alizadeh congratulated them and wished them further success in scientific activity.
