An expanded meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) to discuss issues related to the implementation of the research priorities put forward by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the General Meeting held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of ANAS. The event articulated around the President Ilham Aliyev's ideas “On the relevant activities with the aim of writing a monograph "Azerbaijan on the way of independence" on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of state independence of Azerbaijan was made by the Vice-president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli.

First of all, Academician spoke about the high-level event organized on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of ANAS and about how important was the attendance of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his speech at the jubilee for the entire Academy. He noted that in his speech, which bears a programmatic nature, the President has set the domestic science more important tasks, and stressed that the President has put forward such important requirements as more active participation of science, including the Academy in the process of socio-economic development of the country, ensuring the further development and modernization of Azerbaijan, based on a scientific basis, the protection of national interests in science.

Isa Habibbeyli said that one of the most important tasks set by the President Ilham Aliyev to the humanities and social sciences, was the creation of a serious scientific work on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the state independence of Azerbaijan. He stressed that the proposal is also an important appeal to scientists to investigate the problem of independence.

Academician noted that, given the deep historical roots of the struggle for independence in the structures of ANAS institutes should be set up these new divisions as the departments of Azerbaijani literature of independence, Azerbaijan's history of independence, the economy of Azerbaijan independence period, Azerbaijani Culture of independence period. Already has started work in this direction, the scientist added that there is a department of "Azerbaijani literature of Independence" and the Institute of Literature and Institute of has a sector of "Azerbaijan history of independence", which operates at the department of Modern Azerbaijan history. In addition, the choice of master's and doctoral works, dissertations for doctoral degree is necessary to approach the issue of independence with various aspects in future.

The idea that "it is time to create a scientific work on the 25th anniversary of our independence," said President Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the anniversary event, it requires us to pay special attention to this area.

Academician noted that work dedicated to the period of independence of Azerbaijan should be multidimensional, covering the problems of social development in all directions. This scientific work must reflect all the questions on the history, economy, science, culture and other spheres of social life. He added that the subject of a separate chapter should be the problem of demographic development in the period of independence.

Isa Habibbeyli stressed that work will also reflect the history of the struggle of Heydar Aliyev for Azerbaijan's independence. Noting that the initial draft has been submitted to the President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh, the academician said that orders have been given for the organization of the working group. He stressed that, along with the fact that this scientific work will be of great importance for Azerbaijan, it needs to be translated into foreign languages, and thus bring to the world community the truth of the modern history of Azerbaijan independence period.

At the end of his speech, Academician Isa Habibbeyli assured the head of state Ilham Aliyev and President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh that the representatives of the humanities and social sciences will perform their tasks.
