Academician Isa Habibbeyli, president of ANAS met with Professor Osman Mert, head of Turkish Language Association under Ataturk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History of Turkey who is on a visit to Azerbaijan within the second meeting of the commission on common alphabet of the Turkic world.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli made a speech at the event underlining that the ancient and historical relations of Turkey and Azerbaijan has been rapidly developed recently due to the close friendship and brotherhood relations of President Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey. These relations contribute to wider cooperation in many spheres as well as in the spheres of science, education and culture between the two countries.

The president of ANAS underscored the importance of the second meeting of the commission on common alphabet of the Turkic world held in Baku and said that the First Turkology Congress commenced its activities in February-March of 1926. The issue rose at the Congress on common alphabet of the Turkic world has already become a need of our time after 100 years.

“Today the Turkic World unify under the auspices of the Organization of Turkic States and extensively cooperate in various spheres and the historical union has been formed. The common alphabet of the Turkic world is of great importance for strengthening the union. The steps taken in this direction should be speeded up”-said academician Isa Habibbeyli.

The President of ANAS also underscored several important issues on preparation for 100^th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress and had exchange of opinions in this direction.

Professor Osman Mert expressed his pleasure for being in ANAS and highly assessed the relations between ANAS and the Turkish Language Association. The Professor stressed that the important decisions on transition to a common alphabet had been made in the second meeting of the commission on common alphabet of the Turkic world and especially ANAS plays significant role in this direction. Highly appreciating the publication of “Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk” by Mahmud Kashgari, translated into Azerbaijani by Khalid Said Khoja in XX century within 35-37 years by the Institute of Linguistics, the Professor said that the informative seminars are held in the scientific institutions of Turkey related to this historical work. Later on, Professor Osman Mert voiced his suggestions on preparation for the 100^th anniversary of First Turkology Congress.
