Academician Isa Habbibeyli, president of ANAS met with the foreign seismologists who participated at the international conference themed “Seismic hazard updates in the Caucasus and implications for modern engineering practices” held in Baku with the organization of the Republican Seismic Survey Center under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
The conference gathered together about 30 representatives from the USA, Canada, Turkey, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, and Uzbekistan.
The guests got acquainted with the historical building of the Presidium of ANAS at first and then viewed the projects presented for the competition for making a new logo (emblem) of ANAS.
Afterwards, Academician Isa Habbibeyli met with the foreign experts in seismology.
The academician highlighted the role of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the foundation and development of the seismology sphere in Azerbaijan saying that today President Ilham Aliyev pays great attention to the progress of the seismology sphere as he does to the other spheres of the country.
The academician touched upon the importance of the international conference themed “Seismic hazard updates in the Caucasus and implications for modern engineering practices” and said that the most actual issues of seismology, scientific experiences in this sphere, and seismological updates will be discussed and important scientific results will be achieved during the 3-day conference.
The president of ANAS said that seismic researches in Azerbaijan are held by up-to-date equipment and technological programs and underscored that the relations of the Azerbaijan Republican Seismic Survey Center with the foreign Seismic Survey Centers as well as with international organizations at a high level.
The academician stated that the first seismological center will soon be put into operation in the liberated Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
William Wanderer, a representative of the US Energy Department, professor Tea Godoladze, director at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Ilias State University, professor Tuna Onur from the University Victoria, Canada, Bosiddin Fakhraddinov, a representative from Uzbekistan, Eric Sandvol, professor of the US University of Missouri made speeches at the meeting underlining the importance of the joint scientific cooperation, international projects, conduction of seismological researches with Azerbaijan and said that the building codes should be taking into consideration in the seismically active regions.
The gifts were presented to the guests and a commemorative photo was taken at the end.
