The Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences held a commemorative meeting devoted to the 120 anniversary of Academician Mustafa Topchubashov. Opening the event President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh greeted the guests.

ANAS President said Academician Mustafa Topchubashov engaged in scientific, organizational, educational, social activities, medical theory and practice of medicine, played a crucial role in the development of scientific and social thought in Azerbaijan of the twentieth century as a whole. In this sense, his birthday is a significant event not only for the scientific environment of our country, but also for the socio-cultural life of Azerbaijan in general.

Academician Akif Alizadeh said that the activities of Mustafa Topchubashov falls on the twentieth century, is a qualitatively new stage of scientific thinking of Azerbaijan, arisen from mixture of European scientific traditions. History of scientific thought of this period brought up a large number of well-known personalities and brilliant minds. Academician Mustafa Topchubashov was a great scholar, who occupies a special place among the outstanding representatives of the national intellectual elite of the XX century, presented by Academics Mirasadulla Mirgasimov, Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Yusif Mammadaliyev, Shamil Azizbayov, Aliashraf Alizadeh, Mirali Gashgay, Samad Vurgun, Mirza Ibrahimov and others.

Head of ANAS recalled saying national leader Heydar Aliyev, which was made during a meeting with scientists at the Academy in 1993: "People standing at the origins of the Academy, is the great scientists of Azerbaijan, have committed a great feat. Noting that the 70-year anniversary of ANAS was celebrated at the highest level, Academician Akif Alizadeh added that the Academy, which was founded by Mustafa Topchubashov and other representatives of the Azerbaijan intelligentsia, continues its successful activity today. Academician noted that ANAS actively involved in socio-economic, cultural and moral development of the country. Caution and care, which are the state of the domestic science, and specifically the reforms in the sphere of scientific activity is good reason to believe that the Academy in the near future, expect new achievements. Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences has made a very valuable contribution to the strengthening of the intellectual potential of our country. She has made a valuable contribution to the training. ANAS today plays an active role in the overall development of our country, scientists are conducting research, accelerate the dynamics of the future development of the country. "

Academician Akif Alizadeh noted that perceiving a statement by Heydar Aliyev "Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is a national treasure of the Azerbaijani people. We need to keep it! In his speech, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov noted that Academician Mustafa Topchubashov was one of the founders of the school of surgery and health care organizers of Azerbaijan. Since 1951, with a short break, up to the end of his life he was vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The scientist added that in 1952, Academician Mustafa Topchubashov was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Bulgaria, conducted in 1954 by the Lisbon XI congress- member of the International Association of Surgeons. In different years he was elected a member of the All-Union Society of Surgeons, an honorary member of the Society of Surgery named after Vishnevsky, chairman of the Company, disseminating political and scientific knowledge in the country, the honorary chairman of the Society of surgeons and urologists of Azerbaijan, was one of the editors of large medical encyclopedia, editor of "Abdominal surgery" , a member of the editorial board of scientific and medical journals national and national scale.

Academician noted that in 1937 Mustafa Topchubashov invented the ether-oil painkiller called "Analgezin" and the method of its application. In 1945, at a meeting of the Pharmacological Committee of Scientific Medical Council of People's Commissariat of Health of the USSR has authorized the invention of M. Topchubashov as a drug called “Analgezin”. In 1963, for the successful results obtained by applying this method in the Union scale, academician was awarded the Prize A.Vishnevsky. Later this discovery was nominated for the Nobel Prize. However, behind the scenes of the game, namely the publication at a time in the republican newspaper "Baku Worker" articles on the malicious activity of the Nobel brothers, not allowed to become a scientist, winner of this award.

Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov noted that for the first time in the USSR MustafaTopchubashov initiated the evacuation hospitals specialization and co schedule their work. This method is widely used in the organization of military surgery during the war years. During the war years in the surgical treatment of injuries of the peripheral nervous system applied his proposed new products and the method of operation tendomio plastics.

Academician notified that during his 62-year employment Academician Mustafa Topchubashov spent more than 100 thousand successful surgeries. He has authored more than 300 scientific publications, popular scientific articles, 8 monographs and original methodic aids in 5 volumes titled "Private surgery." He supervised 12 doctoral and 30 master's theses. Currently, students of Academician Mustafa Topchubashov were known in the country and abroad as skilled surgeons, and worthy successors of his teacher.

Further, corresponding member of ANAS Nuru Bayramov spoke about the scientific, educational and social activities of Academician Mustafa Topchubashov. Speaking about his education at Medical Faculty of the University of Kiev, and then in 1919 working as an intern at the Azerbaijan State University, Nuru Bayramov stressed that Academician Mustafa Topchubashov was the first Azerbaijani physician, who taught at the University, he was actively involved in the construction of the health system in the region, especially in Nakchivan.

He added that in 1930, Mustafa Topchubashov defended doctoral thesis and was elected professor of the department. In the same year he was elected head of the Department of Elective surgery of the Azerbaijan Medical Institute and the rest of her life led it. Nuru Bayramov noted that Academician Mustafa Topchubashov is one of the 15 founding members of the first Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR.

Speaking about scientific and organizational activity of the academician, the scientist said that in 1931 Mustafa Topchubashov created Society for Surgery of Azerbaijan, he was vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR in 1946, organized RESEARCH problematic Naftalan laboratory to the Research Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine in different years, he was elected member of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the International Association of Surgeons, and a member of the Academy of Sciences of Bulgaria.

In his speech, Nuru Bayramov spoke about the social activities of Mustafa Topchubashov. He noted that the academician was the chairman of the Azerbaijan Peace Committee, a deputy and the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR, member of the Soviet Committee for Solidarity with Asian and African countries. The scientist added that academician Mustafa Topchubashov was awarded the Order "Badge of Honor" Order of Lenin and Red Banner of Labor and medals of the World Peace Council, medal of Vishnevsky, a gold medal "Hammer and Sickle", was awarded the State Prize of the USSR, the title " Hero of Socialist Labor "and" Honored Scientist ".

Later in his speech Academician Boyukkishi Agayev noted that Mustafa Topchubashov has a fruitful career. He added that the initial history and the subsequent development of modern surgery and medical science in Azerbaijan are closely connected with the name of Academician Mustafa Topchubashov. The scientist said that in 1919, graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Kiev and returned to Baku, a young doctor from the first days of his practice was also engaged in scientific research. As a result of these studies he proposed new operating methods to eliminate the parasitic diseases of the spleen and liver. And today, these operating methods known in the world associated with the name of M.A.Topchubashov.

Boyukkishi Agayev added that compiled Academician Mustafa Topchubashov’s books and numerous monographs on topical issues of surgery have exceptional scientific and practical importance in the training of doctors in the country.

Further, Academician Adila Namazova, who spoke about the life and work of Academician Mustafa Topchibashov reported in the event. She stressed her witnesses Mustafa Topchibashov’s inherent simplicity, kindness, professionalism and intelligence.

In closing of the anniversary event was demonstrated a documentary reflecting life and activity of Academician Mustafa Topchubashov.
