The historic day that led to the Great Victory

The historic day that led to the Great Victory

An event titled “From the Garabagh Victory to the State Sovereignty Day” dedicated to September 27th - Remembrance Day was held at the Presidium of ANAS.

First, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played, and a minute of silence was held in honor of our martyrs who heroically lost their lives in the battles for the territorial integrity of our country.

During his opening speech, the president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that under the leadership of the Victorious Commander-in-Chief, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev the valiant Azerbaijani Army wrote glorious history in 44 days by ending 30 year occupation and as a result of local anti-terror operations conducted in September 2023, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was fully restored. He noted that the Garabagh Victory is a glorious day written in golden letters in the centuries-old history of Azerbaijan.

“The foundation for the liberation of Garabagh from occupation is connected to the works of National Leader Heydar Aliyev after he came to political power”- said the head of ANAS, emphasizing that the great leader's work in restoring socio-political stability, strengthening the rule of law and achieving a ceasefire regime in the front-line was of great significance. He noted that during the first battles in the Fuzuli region, in Horadiz city under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the liberation of part of our lands from the enemy generated great hope and confidence in our people. The Academician said that the international negotiations conducted by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and his continuous struggle laid the foundation for today's diplomacy and the future Garabagh Victory.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that multifaceted, tireless, and purposeful activity of President Ilham Aliyev in this direction, the young and patriotic generation nurtured during his leadership and a strong army, have decisively determined the fate of Garabagh with the leadership of Commander-in-Chief. He said that a Great Return is currently being implemented in our liberated territories, and thanks to extensive restoration and construction works, our native lands are rapidly being revitalized.

The president of ANAS emphasized that today the flag of Azerbaijan is waving across all territories of our republic. He said that the 44-day Patriotic War, local anti-terror operations, the Great Return and other processes have highlighted the necessity of celebrating Azerbaijan's State Sovereignty Day at the state level. Academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke about the order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on September 19, 2024 on the “Establishment of State Sovereignty Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan”. He described this document as a significant historical event in the socio-political life of our country. The Academician noted that Azerbaijan had previously declared its state independence twice. On May 28, 1918, in Tbilisi, the National Council of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic drafted and signed the Declaration of Independence. On October 18, 1991, the Constitutional Act on “State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was adopted.

He stated that from now on, the Azerbaijani people will celebrate their state sovereignty as a national holiday with solemnity. He said that this document, for its content and essence, is a continuation of the Declaration of Independence and the act of independence, finalizing and reaffirming them.

According to the Academician Isa Habibbeyli the establishment of the State Sovereignty Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan is a proof of Heydar Aliyev's words, “Our independence is eternal, permanent, and irreversible”.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that President Ilham Aliyev's commemoration of State Sovereignty Day with the events held in Shusha, Agdam, and Khankendi carries symbolic meaning. He noted that the participation of the head of state in the opening of Garabagh University on September 20 is historically significant events with socio-political importance, and all of these are historical achievements of Azerbaijan as an independent state.

Then, the director of the Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS, Professor Karim Shukurov presented a report titled “The Second Garabagh War and the Political-Historical Significance of State Sovereignty”.  The speaker spoke about the historical development path of Azerbaijan.

The vice-president of ANAS, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev also made a speech at the event and said that September 27 is one of the most significant and honorable days in the history of the Azerbaijani people, written in our history in golden letters. “From his first day in power, the head of state set the goal of ensuring Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. For many years, the head of state has implemented targeted measures to enhance our country's military capabilities and strengthen the army. Four years ago, the entire Azerbaijani people united as one during the 44-day Patriotic War, demonstrating solidarity in response to the calls of the head of state”-said the vice-president of ANAS. The scholar also mentioned that following the Garabagh War, our state has entered a new phase of development, and important tasks have been identified for Azerbaijani science, as in all other fields.
