Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

Students of 7th class of Baku secondary school # 189-190 visited ANAS Central Botanical Garden and Institute of Botany.

The main goal was to get acquainted with the work of modern research in the field of botany, strengthening of obtained theoretical knowledge by the practical way in this field.

Students were informed about Azerbaijan’s rich plant diversity, role of the Herbarium Foundation of Institute in their protecting and researching, also demonstrated some historical samples, stored at the Foundation, as well as, preparation of herbarium samples, digitized and included into the Europe database.

"The green treasury of Azerbaijan" exhibition reflecting some relict species of Azerbaijan trees of “Hyrcanian” forest and equipments of the Museum by interactive media has caused great interest of students.

Also was created an opportunity to be acquainted by some relic trees in a live collection of the Botanical garden.

Along with visual overview with different introduced plants, the students received detailed information about natural areas of plant distribution, their importance and protection problems.

Botany teacher of school Adil Jafarov stressed that, this meeting is of great importance from the standpoint of generalization and deepening students' knowledge in Botany and thanked the management and staff of the Central Botanical Garden and Institute of Botany.
