The closing ceremony of the III International Turkological Congress on the theme “National Identity and Cultural Heritage in the Turkic World”, organized on the occasion of declaring the Shusha city as the “Cultural Capital of the Islamic World” for 2024, took place at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
The event, held at the Central Scientific Library of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, began with a video speech by Professor Harun Çiftçi, Rector of the Cankiri Karatekin University, presented to the participants of the congress. He highlighted the importance of the congress in preserving common cultural values, developing further cooperation among Turkic peoples, and discussing common scientific topics of the Turkic world and expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event. Subsequently, renowned turkologist and Doctor of Historical Sciences Suleyman Kayipov, Turkmen turkologist Narbibish Shammayeva, Acting Director of the Folklore Institute of ANAS, Ph.D. in Philology and Associate Professor Afag Ramazanova, Turkish Academician Sajide Chobanoglu, and others delivered speeches at the event. They emphasized that the congress would be beneficial in strengthening the ideology of the Turkic world, and expanding cooperation opportunities.
Concluding the event, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli highlighted the significance of the congress in many aspects. He emphasized that at the current stage of development of the Turkic world, scientific relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan have further developed, encompassing the entire geography of the Turkic world. He highly praised the III International Turkological Congress from the perspective of strengthening the unity and solidarity of the Turkic states. He noted that in the future, all efforts will be mobilized to ensure the expansion and deepening of scientific and cultural integration of the Turkic world.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that the reports presented during the two-day congress, covering topics such as common history, common language, common literature, and common culture, demonstrate the richness and diversity of the unity of the Turkic world.
The head of ANAS also mentioned that the congress shows the greatness of the Turkic world. He highlighted the importance of the event in establishing relations between various scientific institutions of Turkic countries and implementing joint projects. Accordnig to the academician, the friendships formed and the renewed cooperation within the framework of the congress serve to strengthen the present and future of the Turkic world, based on historical traditions.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli highlighted the historical significance of holding the opening ceremony of the III International Turkological Congress at the Presidium of ANAS, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress. He said that the event also played an important role in preparations for the centenary of the First Turkological Congress.
The head of the Academy also underlined the special importance of holding the III International Turkological Congress on the eve of the 80th anniversary of ANAS.
“We have shown that it is possible to turn the legend about “the 21st century to be the “Century of the Turks” into reality”-he said.
Later, Academician Isa Habibbeyli presented the first, second, and third volumes of book of Mahmud Kashgari “Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk”, one of the most valuable books of the Turkic world, which was printed by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS, to the guests.
At the end of the event, young researchers who actively participated in the congress and other attendees were awarded certificates of appreciation.
The event concluded with the national anthems of the Turkic world countries being played.
It should be noted that, the III International Turkological Congress was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), ANAS, the Cankiri Karatekin University Institute of Turcology, and the Mukimi Kokand State Pedagogical Institute.
