A presentation of the documentary film produced by the Kirkuk Culture Association and dedicated to the prominent researcher Ata Tarzibashi was held at the Presidium of ANAS.
The event was attended by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Presidium of ANAS, responsible staff of the Presidium administration of ANAS, as well as members of the Coordinating Council for Iraqi-Turkmen Studies of ANAS, Head of the Kirkuk Culture Association, the Kirkuk poet and researcher, Dr. Shamsaddin Kuzachi, and representatives of the institutions of Humanities and Social Sciences divisions of ANAS.
The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli made a speech at the event. He touched upon the literary relations between Iraqi Turkmens and Azerbaijan, emphasizing that these relations come out from common national and spiritual values with ancient historical roots. National Leader Heydar Aliyev always paid special attention to the development of Kirkuk-Azerbaijan relations. This policy has been successfully continued in recent years by President Ilham Aliyev, and based on the interests of our state the Coordinating Council for Iraqi-Turkmen Studies was established at ANAS. During the past period, the council has implemented important measures to coordinate and systematize research on the history, language, literature, culture, ethnography, and folklore of the Iraqi Turkmens. Several important events have also been organized by the council.
Saying that the outstanding researcher Ata Tarzibashi had historical contributions to the development of Kirkuk-Azerbaijan relations, the head of ANAS underlined that, this year, on the occasion of his 100th anniversary, an international scientific conference titled “Iraqi-Turkmen Folklore and Literature” was held at the Academy, and the presentation of the book “Ata Tarzibashi-National Researcher of Kirkuk”, authored by Shamsaddin Kuzachi, took place.
The academician also touched upon the historical contributions of Professor Gazanfar Pashayev, a member of the Institute of Literature, to the development of Kirkuk-Azerbaijan relations. He highlighted Gazanfar Pashayev’s work “Six Years on the Banks of Tigris and Euphrates”, created over many years.
The head of ANAS also underlined that the first dissertation dedicated to Ata Tarzibashi has been written by Orkhan Isayev, a researcher of the Institute of Literature, and is currently in the defense stage.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that representatives from ANAS will also participate in the conference to be held in Iraq in connection with the 530th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mahammad Fuzuli, and this will contribute further to the development of literary relations.
Then, Professor Gazanfar Pashayev, the chief researcher of the Department of Azerbaijani Oral Folk Literature and Written Monuments of the Institute of Literature, spoke about his research on the Iraqi Turkmens, scientific and cultural relations, and his activities as a translator in Iraq. The scholar said that in 1994, at the initiative of the Great Leader, a large delegation from Azerbaijan participated in the events marking the 500th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Muhammad Fuzuli. Gazanfar Pashayev emphasized that National Leader Heydar Aliyev, showed particular sensitivity towards the Iraqi compatriots and in an interview with the “Gardashlıq” (“Brotherhood”) magazine, published in Istanbul, Heydar Aliyev emphasized: “When I studied history, I saw that South Azerbaijan, North Azerbaijan, and the Iraqi Turkmens are parts of one whole”.
In his speech, Dr. Shamsaddin Kuzachi, the head of the Kirkuk Culture Association, expressed his gratitude for the attention given to Ata Tarzibashi’s work and to the Iraqi Turkmens in general. He noted that in recent years, our joint cooperation has elevated the literary relations between the Iraqi Turkmens and Azerbaijan to a high level. Shamsaddin Kuzachi mentioned that a number of events are planned to further expand this cooperation, including the organization of Kirkuk Culture Days in 2025, and provided information about the film.
Then, a documentary film produced by the Kirkuk Culture Association and dedicated to the prominent researcher Ata Tarzibashi was shown. In the film, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Professor Gazanfar Pashayev, and researcher Orkhan Isayev shared their thoughts and memories about Ata Tarzibashi’s work.
