A regular meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi was held.
The event was attended by the President of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Humanitarian Sciences Division of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Manuscripts, Academician Teymur Karimli, Head of Science and Education Department of the Presidium administration of ANAS, Doctor of Philology Sarkhan Khavari, Head of the “Electron Academy” Department, PhD in Mathematics Fariz Imranov, as well as heads of departments and staff of the Institute.
The meeting of the Scientific Council was opened by the President of ANAS and Director of the Institute of Literature, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who introduced the items on the agenda. The academician congratulated Tinatin Mammadova, PhD in Philology and Associate Professor, on her 60th anniversary, and presented her with an Honorary Diploma on this occasion.
Subsequently, scientific and organizational matters were discussed. The annual scientific report of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi for 2024 was presented during the meeting. The report was delivered by the institute’s scientific secretary, PhD in Philology and Associate Professor Aygun Baghirli.
The presenter noted that 2024 was significant for the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature in terms of achieving scientific results. The presenter spoke about the works carried out during the reporting year in accordance with the decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the decisions and orders of the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as state programs.
Aygun Baghirli noted that, in line with President Ilham Aliyev’s decree dated December 25, 2023, declaring 2024 as the “Green World Solidarity Year”, the institute’s director, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, participated in scientific conferences such as “Green Growth and Sustainable Development”, “Let’s Protect Our Green World”, “Our Green World in the Light of Science”, and others. He also attended and delivered presentations at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku from November 11-22, 2024. Moreover, during a visit to the People’s Republic of China, the President of ANAS met with the General Secretary of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) where a memorandum of cooperation was signed between ANAS and the organization. The report also detailed the participation of the institute’s scientists and specialists in republican and international events and the presentations they delivered.
The report also addressed the works carried out by the institute in connection with the Presidential Decree dated January 25, 2024, “On the Celebration of the 530th Anniversary of the Great Azerbaijani Poet Muhammad Fuzuli”. It was noted that international scientific conferences, such as “Muhammad Fuzuli and Sultan Baho: Literary Relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan,” as well as “The Great Azerbaijani Poet Muhammad Fuzuli as a representative of common Muslim Culture,” jointly organized by the Presidium of ANAS, the Humanitarian and Social Sciences Divisions of ANAS, and the Iraq-Azerbaijan Friendship Society were held. Additionally, a scientific conference on “Muhammad Fuzuli and the Turkic World,” the “Muhammad Fuzuli-530” panel at the 3rd Turkic World Literature and Book Festival, and other events were organized. Presentations of research works covering Muhammad Fuzuli’s heritage aimed to reintroduce Fuzuli to the world as an Azerbaijani poet.
The presenter said that the institute conducted research on 2 directions, covering 8 problems, 19 topics, and 133 works during the current year. Of these, 95 works were completed, while research on 38 projects is ongoing. She also listed the major scientific results for 2024, including literary works, textbooks, translations, conference materials, impact-factor articles, and compiled books authored by the institute’s scholars and specialists. It was emphasized that 76 books and monographs authored by the institute’s staff were published (4 of them abroad), along with 1,164 articles, 249 of which were published internationally (18 in impact-factor journals).
Subsequently, the institute’s deputy director, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Mehman Hasanli, delivered a presentation titled “The Electron Literature Institute in 2024: Results and Perspectives”. He noted that, through activities implemented on academic platforms and the creation of electronic versions of scientific journals, certain goals had been achieved in promoting the Institute of Literature in the virtual environment and integrating the institution into the digital space. Mehman Hasanli also mentioned that a corporate profile for the Institute of Literature was created on Google Scholar some time ago and as a result, there has been an increase in references to the articles by the institute’s scholars working in the humanities.
The meeting also featured presentations by the Head of the “Electron Academy” Department of the Presidium administration of ANAS, PhD in Mathematics Fariz Imranov, the Head of Science and Education Department of the Presidium administration of ANAS, Doctor of Philological Sciences Sarkhan Khavari, and the Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Humanitarian Sciences Division of ANAS, Academician Teymur Kerimli. They all highly praised the annual report of the Institute of Literature, which was presented in an interactive format.
Next, PhD in Philology and Associate Professor Gunay Garayeva spoke about the approval of individual work plans for doctoral and dissertation students for the year 2025.
The meeting also approved the decision to submit the first part of Volume VII of the ten-volume “History of Azerbaijani Literature” for publication. Additionally, a decision was made to present Volume VIII of the “Library of Azerbaijani Emigrant Literature” series-the monograph “The Azerbaijani Poet Nizami” by Mahammad Amin Rasulzadeh and the book “İşıq adam” ("The Enlightened Man") for publication. Furthermore, the decision to submit the writing by Nemat Basir for publication was also approved.
In conclusion, Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized the importance of supporting activities aimed at the formation of electronic science as a priority task for the humanities and social sciences. He said that the Electronic Academy has become a necessity. Today, scientists should focus on publishing their articles in journals included in high-ranking scientific databases. The head of ANAS also highlighted that, during the presentation of reports, the latest developments in global science and the new challenges faced by Azerbaijani science must be taken into account.
