On February 17, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with the President of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), Professor Tan Sun Teck from the National University of Singapore, and the founder of the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), Henry Ong.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed his pleasure at seeing the guests at the Academy and pointed out that the meeting with scientists from Singapore was held for the first time in the history of ANAS. He underlined that, as National Leader Heydar Aliyev did, President Ilham Aliyev pays special attention to mutual relations with Asian countries. Today, Azerbaijan cooperates with strong partner states in the region, such as China and Pakistan. He also said that the National Academy of Sciences has established scientific ties with academic institutions of Asian states. ANAS was elected as a member of the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) and has close cooperation with scientific institutions of China, Pakistan, as well as Central Asian states.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that the National Academy of Sciences is also interested in establishing cooperation relations with the academic institutions of Singapore, where science, education, and technology are developing rapidly. He said that studying and applying Singapore’s experience in science and technology will give rise to the further development of Azerbaijani science.
Then, the President of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), Professor Tan Sun Teck from the National University of Singapore, and the founder of the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), Henry Ong made speeches at the meeting. They provided detailed information about the organizations they represent and expressed interest in cooperating with the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. It was highlighted that research is conducted also in the fields of humanities and social sciences at the National University of Singapore, and there are opportunities for joint collaboration. It was also underlined that Azerbaijani students achieve high results in international Olympiads, and that high value is placed on science and education in our country.
After the speeches, the President of ANAS presented the guests with books related to the history of Azerbaijan.
The scientists from Singapore also had the opportunity to see the building of the Presidium of ANAS and get acquainted with the work carried out in the “Electronic Academy” department of the administration.
The meeting was also attended by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Director of the Central Scientific Library of ANAS, Huseyn Huseynov and Adalat Mammadgasimov, Head of the SASMO Azerbaijan and Türkiye Olympiad Center.
