5th Republican competition “Scientists of the future” kicked off

On February 11, Central Scientific Library of ANAS held opening ceremony of 5th Republican competition “Scientists of the future”.

The competition is carried out by joint organization of the Ministries of Education, Youth and Sports, Heydar Aliyev Center, ANAS and Independent Trade Union of Education Employeers.

Representatives of relevant institutions, renowned scientists, university rectors, school principals, education officials, experts and students participated in the event which started with the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the event, Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov spoke about the competition and its importance in our country, the implementation of education reforms, underlined the work done to strengthen the intellectual potential. Making speech on role of science and education in a modern era, the Minister said that the main objectives of the reforms in the country's educational institutions are forming way of thinking among the adolescent, and their involvement in research-oriented activities. 

M.Jabbarov said that, main goal of the competition is to give opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their scientific achievements, and focus on scientific thinking and research skills.

Later on President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh spoke about fruitful outputs of policy pursued by head of state.

Notifying the events in the direction of science development, Acad. Akif Alizadeh expressed his confident in contribution of educational competitions to science and wished success to attendees of the 5th Republican competition “Scientists of the future”.

Deputy Minister of AR Ministry of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev stressed out the role of “State Strategy on development of education in the Republic of Azerbaijan” approved by President Ilham Aliyev.

Tatyana Nanayeva, manager of Intel Corporation in the CIS countries, brought to the attention the role of International Science and Engineering Fair in increasing students’ interest in science and new knowledge.

Note that “Scientists of the future” competition is attended by country's IX-XII grade students from secondary school of 11 cities and regions with 129 scientific projects. 87 of them are collectively, while 42 of the individual projects.

The competition will end on February 13. On the second day of competition projects will be assessed by the jury, simultaneously Training Academy of the competition will operate. On Latter-day "Open Door" will be held on time, students and teachers will have an opportunity to see the projects.

The winners of the competition will be awarded the diplomas, medals and other prizes by the organizers.

The author of 3 projects selected by the jury will get chance to attend the Intel ISEF - Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Phoenix, Arizona in the United States in May of current year.
