ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics held all-republic conference in the Earth sciences on theme “Global climate changes and dangerous hydro metrological phenomena in Azerbaijan”.

Fellow of the Hydrometeorology Research Institute of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Professor Rza Mahmudov delivered an extensive lecture at the event, chaired by Deputy Director of the Institute of Science, Dr. Geology-mineralogy Dadash Huseynov.

Lecturer stated that, regional effects of the recent global climate change and its negative impact on the sustainable development of any country continues. Anomaly atmosphere processes has impacted to changing of hydro metrological condition and lead to increase of disasters, including floods, hurricanes, droughts, strong winds, heavy rains, forest fires, and water level fluctuations.

It was noted that currently, the impact of climate change causes great damage not only economy of individual countries, but also to the world economy as a whole. According to the World Meteorological Organization, 80-85% of natural disasters in the world are associated with the hydro-meteorological processes.

R.Mahmudov noted that, growing temperature extrenes global warming and accelerates the process of desertification, arid weather conditions and have a negative impact of agriculture, animal husbandry, violates the stable and sustainable development, agriculture, health care, becomes a cause of the emergence and spread of different diseases.

He also emphasized that, all of this together with an increase in human demand for food increases the risk of food shortages in the world.

From this point of view, of course, the growth dynamics of different types of natural disasters as a result of meteorological processes is also observed in the territory of our republic has peculiar physiographic and climatic conditions.

It was noted that, the climate in Azerbaijan is part of the global climate system. Therefore, the processes occurring in the system with different intensities and at different periods of time affects the climatic conditions of the country.
