Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The Institute of Information Technology of ANAS is participating in the European Commission-funded project provides for the creation and operation of science and education computer network covering Eastern Partnership countries (EapConnect: Eastern Partnership Connect).

The project, covering the whole of Europe will be carried out the integration of the national research and education network AzScienceNet in research and education network (GEANT network).

The final meeting of the project took place on 13-18 March 2016 in Utrecht, Netherlands. At the general meeting of the project attended Academician-Secretary of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, Academician Rasim Alguliyev.

The general meeting was also attended by a representative of the DG NEAR: Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations Navas Fernandez.

Mr. Fernandez stated that, the European Commission will continue to support the mentioned project.

The meeting was attached particular importance to collaborative research by Azerbaijani and European scientists. In order to provide technical support for research, the project was proposed to organize a competition "Enlighten Your Research", which takes place in Europe.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev noted that, scientific and educational structures will get high-speed access to the GEANT network through AzScienceNet (1 GB / s).

Further, sequentially a new set of network services will be created, in which users will be able to uniquely identify the system safe and reliable transmission of very volume of information access in a number of European scientific information databases, using high-quality video conferencing systems, the use of remote medical services, empowerment distance learning, effective access to the Grid Cloud Computing system.

It is proposed to use the project created in the technological possibilities and new services not only structures of ANAS, but also universities, libraries and other scientific organizations.

In addition, it is recommended to establish relations of cooperation with other organizations involved in the storage, transfer and processing of big data, as well as support for joint scientific and educational activities of these organizations with European employees through AzScienceNet.

One of the main directions, causing the interest of universities is to expand the Eduroam service that allows you to get free Internet access, in the territory of different universities located both within the country and abroad.

Creation of Eduroam service and coordination of its development in Eastern Partnership countries has been entrusted to the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS. In this regard, within the framework of the visit was a meeting with the creative Eduroam staff service, experience of the Netherlands has been studied.
