Institute of Genetic Resources holds international webinars

For the first time in Azerbaijan, Institute of Genetic Resources (IGG) organizes international webinars (online-seminars) since January of this year.

Seminars are carried out by initiative of Ilham Shahmuradov, corresponding member, a Professor at Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU), currently a researcher at the University of Science and Technology on behalf of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, laboratory chief of Bioinformatics of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), and support of IGR.

Events are attended by associates of IGR, Laboratory of Bioinformatics of IMBB, Department of Biology and Genetics of AMU and National Oncology Center. Note that, younger people are dominated among the seminar attendees and in near future, researchers from U.S, Germany, Australia, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other countries will join to the events.

Webinars aims to exchange and discuss data on latest achievements of Biology, Medicine and Agrarian sciences, and shaping new scientific ideas and projects based on them, including enhance academic ties among scientists of ANAS, various university and other scientific ventures, achieve the efficient and large-scale use of scientific equipment, obtained by means of Science Development Foundation under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ANAS and other bodies, create opportunities for cooperation of Azerbaijani scientists, especially young people and between leading researchers from other countries, enhance the experience of lecturing by young researchers at the scientific workshops, shape the culture of scientific debate among them, and create new opportunities for young scientists and specialists, master's and doctoral students to posses deeper knowledge with the most modern areas of science and development of researcher skills.

Initial 5 webinars by I. Shahmuradov covered topics "Introduction to Biocomputer”, "Sequence styling: goals and means," "Comparison of nucleotide and protein sequences and interpretation of the results obtained", "Genome annotation and to solve the problem of experimental and bioinformatic resources" and "Human genetic view: genome and its repeated annotation, super genome”, “Heredity", detailed discussions were held.

In addition, associate of “Super genome and Bioinformatics Research Group” of Turkey Dr. Huseyn Demirji delivered a lecture on, key research directions and achievements, including exome sequencing, discussed cooperation vistas between IGR and center.

Senior researcher of the Department of Biotechnology of the IGR PhD in Biology science Saida Sharifova delivered a lecture “Transcriptomics, research methods and applications”.

Head teacher of AMU, doctoral student of IGR PhD in Biology science Leyla Suleymanova made a lecture on “Encoded RNA world”, which conducted encoded RNAs, their function and identification methods.

Note that, webinars will be continued in future.
