Institute of Information Technology cooperates in the sphere of anti-plagiarism

Researches that carried out at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS attract attention not only scientific organizations, operating in this field, but also business entities.

At the meeting of representative of the “Turnitin” Co., engaged in anti-plagiarism Katya Levchenko and director of the Institute of Information Technology Academician Rasim Alguliyev were discussed the issue of anti-plagiarism.

Academician gave detailed information about intellectual property and copyright protection, knowledge, as well as an assessment of all the subjects, producing knowledge, prospects of policy adopted by the states and international organizations in this area, comprehensive assessment, protection of creative activity, and the importance of research ethics in protecting and the formation of the knowledge society.

Discussion were held on protection of intellectual property, including, works done in the sphere of tussling with plagiarism, studies carried out at the institute and obtained results.

The scientist noted that Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is one of the interested bodies of the country tussling against plagiarism, which also coordinates scientific activity. ANAS demonstrate scientific support to protection of intellectual property of scientists, research institutions and in general of the whole country, as well as conducts regular enlightenment work. Making speech on studies carried out at the Institute of Information Technology, scientist stated that, most of the scientific literature to be accessible over the Internet, the global scientific bases and scientific creativity, while promoting services offered by libraries also creates a fertile ground for plagiarism.

The head of department, Doctor of Technical Sciences Ramiz Aliguliyev said that the rapid growth in the number of scientific publications to examine ways of fighting Plagiarism, the diversity of language and context, machine translation constraints should be taken into account such factors as the financial burden of access to scientific bases. Therefore the institute conducts studies at a crossroads of research areas such as machine learning, Data Mining, Machine Translation, statistics, social network analysis, scientometrics and bibliometrics. He added that, newly published "Fighting Technologies for Plagiarism", book covers the scientific results obtained from the institute.

Highly appreciating scientific performance of the institute, Katya Levchenko clarified the basic principles and complex approach methods of Turnitin in design of software products envisaged for struggle against plagiarism.

Having general office in America, an international office in the UK, the company's main products are "Turnitin" and "iThenticate" programs. "IThenticate" is most advanced software, which used by publishing houses in the world due to plagiarism detection and prevention. By means of this program, authors, researchers and editors get the chance to compare the proposed scientific work for publication, 56 billion web-pages and 142 million articles by analyzing.

Mainly intended for use in educational institutions, "Turnitin" enables pupils and students to oversight their tasks against plagiarism elements in advance as possible, including the teachers to check for plagiarism in submitted works. "Turnitin" offers for teachers to track learning process of written expression of the students, make feedback and evaluate the progress. "Turnitin" is used by more than 26 million students by 15,000 enterprises in 140 countries.

At the meeting was decided to develop mutual cooperation and conduct joint scientific-practical workshop in the future.
