Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

April 15, Presidium of ANAS hosted the meeting with the delegation, headed by Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Dazhu Young.

Welcoming the guests, President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh noted that Azerbaijan's cooperation with the IAEA began in 2001. He said that the main purpose of the meeting is to discuss the prospects of cooperation between the Academy and the IAEA in their respective fields.

Then, Deputy General Director of IAEA Dazhu Young noted that, arrived in our country with the aim of opening the Nuclear Medicine Center at the National Cancer Center, described the event as a positive step in the field of medicine in our country. He emphasized that in nuclear medicine center has all the conditions for the treatment of cancer.

D.Yang said that during the visit, meetings were held with a number of authorized representatives of the Government of Azerbaijan and held discussions on topical issues. Meanwhile, special guest visited the plant "Isotope", nuclear plant radioactive wastes, where he familiarized himself with the work carried out.

Guests are also reported on the use of nuclear technology in the field of health, agriculture, industry and water management. He brought to the attention that the structure he represents, directly involved in the treatment of cancer and diabetes, as well as in the fight against dangerous virus spreading in the world.

D. Young said that the main reason for bringing together the IAEA and ANAS is cooperation in the technical area, provided to 2018-2019. Different structures of Azerbaijan until the end of May should prepare cooperation projects and seek for IAEA.

Guest speaking about ongoing projects, the structure represented by him, said that such projects include the preparation of research projects in cooperation with the member states of this organization. Guests invited ANAS scientists to participate in joint projects.

Akif Alizadeh expressed confidence that with modern equipment Nuclear Medicine Center will achieve significant progress in the field of nuclear medicine. He noted that it will be possible to conduct research aimed at the application of isotopes in medicine by this equipment.

At the meeting, issues of personnel between the two structures and the exchange of experience were discussed, joint seminars and conferences, and has also been voiced by a number of proposals.
