Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

Today, electron hall of the Institute of Literature of ANAS hosted the meeting with notable poet, writer, literary critic, social-political figure, diplomat, People Poet of Kazakhstan Olzhas Suleymenov.

Vice-President of ANAS director of the Institute of Literature Academician Isa Habibbayli opened the meeting and stated that it has been devoted to the 80th anniversary of notable Kazakh poet O.Suleymenov. Academician congratulated the poet and wished him successes in his many-faceted activity.

Later on, I. Habibbayli spoke about life and creativity of O.Suleymenev and his contributions to science, literature, including development and enrichment of social opinion in Kazakhstan. “O.Suleymenov is met with respect and love in Azerbaijan. Writer's works have been repeatedly published in the country. Everyone in Azerbaijan appreciates him as copartner and brother-in-arms of national leader Heydar Aliyev. In accordance with the Order of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev "On mass publication of literature in Latin alphabet in the country" dated January 12, 2004, O.Suleymenov’s famous "Az-Ya" work has been published in 25 thousand circulation”, he noted. 

According to Isa Habibbayli Institute of Literature has conducted wide range of research on life and creativity of Olzhas Suleymenov, published 2 monographs in Russian. He always was representing civil intellectualism, in the 90s – during troubles of Azerbaijan, he visited to Baku and underpinned glorious struggle for sake of state independence.

Then, Acad. Isa Habibbayli presented the diploma of Honorary Doctor of the Institute of Literature of ANAS to O. Suleymenov. Note that, Decision on granting I.Suleymenov the Honorrary Doctor of the Institute of Literature for his merits in defending state independence of Azerbaijan, delivering Azerbaijan truths to the world, including linking scientific-literary and cultural ties among Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkic World, was taken at the assembly of Academic Council of the institute on April 22, 2016.

Writer was presented a medal and book “Academy in faces”, prepared on the occasion of 70th anniversary of ANAS as well.

Afterwards, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Beybit Isabeyov made speech at the event and appreciated O.Suleymenov as opulence of Turkic world.

Senior researcher of the Department of World Literature and Comparativistics Dr. Philology Aida Feyzullayeva made a presentation on “O.Suleymenov’s creativity portrait”.

At the event, rector of BSU, Academician Abel Maharramov, rector of Kazakhstan National University Academician Galimgair Mutanov, chief department of XX century Literature Professor Shirindil Alishanli, Dr. Philology Nizami Taghisoy and others were reported and gauged poet’s visit to Baku as a remarkable event.

In closing, Olzhas Suleymenov said that, he is in Baku within the framework of 7th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations under the motto “Co-existence in the inclusive societies: challenge and purpose”. Poet thanked the organizers and participants of the event, expressed a great sense of satisfaction of being in Azerbaijan.
