Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On June 1, Central Scientific Library of ANAS held scientific international conference “World of Sadi Shirazi”.

In advance, was featured an exhibition devoted to the great Persian poet and thinker Sadi Shirazi’s life and creativity at the foyer of the library.

Opening the event Vice-President of ANAS Academician Isa Habibbeyli made speech on current ties in various fields between two countries, and expressed his confidence in contribution of these types of events to the enhancing of ties, strengthening of solidarity in Islamic World.

Comprehensively informing about great Persian poet and thinker Sadi Shirazi, Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that, Sadi was recognized in the world with his mainly two books “Bustan” and “Gulustan”, which are not very large and published in 1257-1258. These works are now considered masterpieces of world literature treasury. "Bustan", penned in lyric genre consists of advice of Islamic religious point of view, as well as definitions of qualities as justice, modesty and equality. In addition, work informs the culture dervish. While "Gulustan" work is composed of epic stories, jokes, words of wisdom, advice and short poems.

At the event, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Iran Islamic Republic to Azerbaijan Mohsun Pakayin said that, being one of the notable luminaries of medieval Persian literature, and representatives of gazal genre – Sadi Shirazi’s works are highly estimated both its quality and social importance.

Chief of Iran Culture Center in Baku Ibrahim Ibrahimi told about different aspects of creativity of the poet and thinker, who strongly affected Iran culture, and had a special place in a world literature and philosophic thought.

Conference run by lectures on following topics: “Traces of Sadi Shirazi’s creativity in Azerbaijan literature”, “Some points of Sadi Shirazi’s creativity”, “Ode genre in Sadi Shirazi’s creativity” etc.
