Azerbaijani and Russian botanists conducted joint research

In order to study the Azerbaijani flora, in particular, of the legume family (species Astragalus), a senior researcher at the Institute of Botany of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Doctor of Biological Sciences Andrei Sytin, PhD in Biology Lydia Ryazanova and doctoral student Alexander Himarik made a visit to the Institute of Botany of ANAS.

During the visit A.Sytin L.Ryazanova and made changes to the nomenclature Astraqalus L. samples stored in the Herbarium of the Institute, as well as identified areas spread of these species in Azerbaijan. Russian scientists also had an exchange of experience with the staff Herbarium on the taxonomy and morphology of plants, as well as the preparation of herbarium materials.

Guided by staff of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, Dr. Biology Naib Mehdiyeva and PhD in biology Vugar Karimov, the guests were organized expeditions to various regions of Azerbaijan (Talish, Nakhchivan, Ganja, Shamkir, Altiagaj). Collected herbarium materials will be stored in the Herbarium of the Institute of Botany and Herbarium RAS. In addition, plants, pictures taken during the field research will be reflected in the concept of Caucasian flora prepared by Russian scientists and modern technology of electronic maps.

At a seminar organized by the Institute of Botany, following reports were presented: A.Sytin "Annual Astragalus Caucasus: evolution and taxonomy issues" as a result of the joint research and A.Himarik "Using the Multi interactive identification keys”.

Azerbaijani and Russian experts were also discussed various topics presented at the Institute.
