ANAS Central Scientific Library hosted a conference on “Protection of human rights as one of the main directions of state policy of Azerbaijan” co-organized by Knowledge Foundation under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Constitutional Court, June 17.

An event dedicated to the 18 June – Day of Human Rights brought together representatives of the Constitutional Court, Commissioner Administration for Human Rights, State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs, and Ministry of Taxes.

Vice-President of ANAS Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, turnover in ensuring of human rights and freedom in Azerbaijan was launched after returning Heydar Aliyev to the power in 1993. He made speech on President Ilham Aliyev’s merits in protection of human rights in the country. By the Order of President 18 June is marked Day of Human Rights in our country.

Besides, defining future development vistas of the country, the Constitution, adopted on November 12, 1995 put to the fore providing human rights and freedom as the highest target of the country, stated Academician Isa Habibbeyli.

Deputy Chairman of Constitutional Court Sona Salmanova said that, adoption of the first Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev, paved the way for democratic changes in life of society and state, providing human rights and freedom, their protection mechanisms was mainstreamed.

CEO of Knowledge Foundation Ogtay Samadov informed about the organization led by him and stated that, since establishment the foundation has done several works in a number of spheres, as well as in legal enlightenment of population. In 2016, Knowledge Foundation carried out 16 local, regional and international conferences while four of which are dedicated to human rights issues. Majority of the lectures delivered at the Knowledge Houses, building by the organization in different regions of the country, are devoted to legal issues.

Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Sadagat Gahramanova stressed that the theme of the family, women and children, as well as protection of their rights is now one of the most pressing issues of our society. After the restoration of independence of Azerbaijan the protection of human rights has become an important element of state policy.

Creation of the State Committee on Women in 1998 by the Decree great leader Heydar Aliyev, the establishment of the State Committee on problems of Family, Women and Children on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev in 2006, to suggest that the imposition on the discussion topic is always the center of attention in our country. In Azerbaijan, the institution of family policy is a model for many other states. Research by international organizations the experience in this field in our country reports the importance attached to the concept of family in Azerbaijan.

At the conference were listened following lectures: "Ensuring human rights in the legal context in Azerbaijan", "The issue of human rights protection in the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic and international standards", "Constitutional Review as one of the mechanisms for protecting the rights and freedoms of man and citizen", "Development protection of the rights of women and children in the system of the national legislation: successes and challenges ahead” etc.
