Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

As is known, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of AR joint with the European Union has launched a new twinning project "Support to Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan in modernization of policy and management system of culture sector”. The project is coordinated by the European Commission and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan Republic. The project, which started in February 2016 and run by February 2018 is going to focus on the further improvement of the management system in various fields of culture.

On June 22, ANAS Institute of History named after A.A.Bakikhanov held a meeting devoted to the issues on implementing ongoing project with local Twinning project Advisor Alessandro Bianchi.

Acting Academician-Secretary of the Department of Social Sciences, corresponding member of ANAS Nargiz Akhundova was attending the meeting as well.

In advance, director of the institute corresponding member Yagub Mahmudov greeted the guest and expressed his satisfaction of seeing him at the institute led by. Scientist drew attention to the development of international ties in latest years at the institute of 80 years old, and implementation of several scientific studies.

Y.Mahmudov stated that, his books “Irevan khanate”, as well as “Relations of Azerbaijan with European countries in the medieval ages” have been published in Italian language in Rome. He stressed out the similarities in traditions of South Europe, especially Italy and Azerbaijan, also great essence of the collaboration of both countries in science.

"Azerbaijan is one of the territories where was evaluated first primitive people, and rich of archaeological monuments" – said director of the institute and brought to mind extensive ties of Garagoyunlu, Aggoyunlu, Safavid, Gajar empires via Europe historically.

Later, A.Bianchi noted that he is on mission to Azerbaijan as a representative of EU. Making speech on broad ties of Azerbaijan with member countries of European Union, the guest highlighted his organization responsible for protection of cultural heritage in Italy, possessing perennial experience. Currently, key goal in collaborating EU with Azerbaijan is improve management system in culture field of Azerbaijan. "The main purpose of such meetings is to obtain detailed information about specific tasks entrusted to Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences for the protection of national and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan,” he added.

In his turn, Y. Mahmudov also notified the extreme importance of protecting historical monuments for further offspring and generally for humanity. Scientist spotlighted the destroying of historical temples and ruining of cultural monuments in a systematic way in the occupied territories over 25 years, including stated his willingness to appeal to the EU Culture Commission in this respect.

In closing, Y.Mahmudov donated the books about genocides, which was subjected Azerbaijan, to the guest.
