Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

The International Conference "Past and Present of the Albanian Apostolic Church" in accordance with the "Action Plan in connection with the declaration 2016 "Year of multiculturalism" in the Republic of Azerbaijan", approved by Decree of AR President Ilham Aliyev was held on July 20 in Gabala.

The event was held by organizational support of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, Baku international Multiculturalism Center, Copyright Agency and Albanian-Udi Christian religious community of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The conference attended by prominent experts in the field albanovedeniya from Norway, Turkey and Russia, historians, intellectuals and representatives held in Gabala II International Summer School of Multiculturalism "Multiculturalism as a way of life in Azerbaijan: national and religious values".

At the opening ceremony were State Counsellor of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the issues of religion and multiculturalism, Academician Kamal Abdullayev, chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli, Vice-President of ANAS, chairman of the Science and Education of Milli Majlis Committee, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, chairman of Copyright Agency Kamran Imanov, , Metropolitan of the Syrian monastery autocephalous church Deir-al-Zafaran Salib Ozmen and chairman of the Albanian-Udi Christian religious community of the Republic of Azerbaijan Robert Mobili.

The speakers told about done works and the provided actions in Azerbaijan in "Year of multiculturalism". Under the leadership of the president Ilham Aliyev tolerance in our country is provided at the high level, all necessary conditions for the small people, and also representatives of Islam and other religions living in Azerbaijan are created. It was noted that, as a result of the created conditions, in our country the international relations are successfully established, interreligious communication is provided, Azerbaijan became an example of tolerance for the whole world.

The speakers noted that, the abolition in 1836 of the Albanian church and its union with the Armenian Gregorian Church is a great injustice to the Albanians and Udine. Currently, work is underway to restore the rights of Udine. To this end, government of Azerbaijan creates conditions for activities of Albanian-Udi Christian religious community, and provides the necessary support.

At the international event were delivered reports on "Caucasus Albania and genetic analysis in the historical and geographical aspect, "From Jerusalem to Kish","Albanian-Udi Christian community of Azerbaijan as a successor to the Albanian Autocephalous Apostolic Church".

Then the conference continued its work in plenary. Local and foreign experts, historians, intellectuals delivered reports on the subject.

Made a visit to Nij settlement, participants also got acquainted with the Albanian church of St. Elisha.
