Nakhchivan Division held a report assembly related to the archeological excavations

ANAS Nakhchivan Division held a report assembly related to archaeological excavations carried out in the territory of Ordubad region, Nakhchivan AR by Kharaba-Gilan archeological expedition.

At the event, chairman of the division Academician Ismayil Hajiyev informed in detail about studies carried out in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and spoke about purposeful measures taken in study of history of the autonomous republic. He stated that, Kharaba-Gilan expedition of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography carried out archeological researches in the complex of Plovdagh archeological sites, in a city site of medieval Kharaba-Gilan and obtained a lot of information of historical importance. Associates of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of Nakhchivan Division of ANAS were closely involved to the excavation works.

Then, expedition head PhD in History Assoc. Prof Bahlul Ibrahimli informed about newly achieved innovations. The main objective of archaeological studies at the complex of Plovdag archaeological sites is to clarify boundaries and territories of the necropolises. To this end, were studied grave sites to the east and north sides of necropolises I, II and III and to the western side of necropolis II, the boundaries have been defined. Simultaneously, an axle container with eight-axis in it, dating back to the midst of the Bronze Age, a large-scale decoration in the form of four pieces of bone, agate and other archaeological materials were obtained, he noted.

The second interesting finding was the relief signs on the pottery, attributed to the Early Bronze Age. This type of monument signs were came across in the monument Kultepe, including in the monument Baba Dervish.

Note that, copper coins dated back to the Eldanizlar and Hulakiler periods were found in the area.
