Works done in the realm of seismology highly appreciated in Azerbaijan

Delegation led by General Director of Republican Seismological Survey Center (RSSC) corresponding member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli visited Potsdam city at the invitation of Stefano Parolain, A Professor and head of Center for Early Warning Systems under German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).

Meeting which took part at the center has discussed studies, works done and iutputs, meanwhile, research works on seismic zoning of Baku city and defining seismically hazard zones.

Azerbaijani delegation has been at the central campus of GFZ CEWS in Potsdam city.

Gurban Yetirmishli delivered a lecture on earthquake epicenters impacting Baku city and paid to the attention the necessity of seismic zoning works of the capital.

Head of Earth System Knowledge Platform, co-director of Central-Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences Jörn Lauterjung highly appreciated the works done in the realm of seismology in Azerbaijan, and brought to mind that, majority of earthquake epicenters, which affect Baku city are in the Caspian Sea, so it is necessary to install seismic stations in the sea.

It was agreed to install devices of GFZ Techno Park to the Baku city due to implement project of seismic zoning in the Baku city. For initially 20 stations from an industrial park GFZ will be installed in Baku through a period of 2 years at the expense of the organization with the participation of employees of both organizations.

RSSC employees met with Birger-G.Lühr, an engineer- geophysicist at Department of the Physics of Earthquakes and Volcanoes in GFZ CEWS.

Corresponding member G.Yetirmishli noted about the mushrooming of mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan and delivered a lecture on connection between them and earthquakes.
