The results of investigations carried out in Nagorno-Karabakh is an important milestone in promoting tangible heritage in the international community

Today, an international conference on “Archaeological heritage of Karabakh” organized by Institute of Archeology ad Ethnography was conducted at the main building of ANAS.

Celebrate archeologists from Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Iran Islamic Republic, Germany and Australia were attended at the conference.

Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke of selfless endeavors of Azerbaijani archeologists in revealing historical truths. He noted that, focusing, studying and promoting Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, which has ancient history and rich material and non-material cultural heritage, by the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, is gratifying.

Academician I.Habibbeyli noted that in a two-day international event will be delivered lectures on history of the research carried out in the territory of Karabakh, place of Karabakh monuments in the system of material heritage of Azerbaijan, etc. Meanwhile, the current state of the monuments in the occupied territories and preliminary results of archaeological investigations held in lowland Karabakh in recent years will be touched upon.

Then, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography Institute Dr. History Maisa Rahimova said that, over 50 lectures to be listened at the conference will cover Paleolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze, Iron, ancient and medieval periods of Karabakh, which is an integral part of the Azerbaijan.

M.Rahimova informed on latest scientific outputs of Karabakh Neolithic-Chalcolithic Expedition in 2010-2016. She stated that, institute led by her carries out research work within the framework of the projects. Research results have been reflected on the "Bulk of archaeological monuments of Karabakh".

Academician-Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences, corresponding member of ANAS Nargiz Akhundova notified that, conference on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan reveals the importance of informing the world community. Our goal is to deliver to the world information about historical lands of Azerbaijan and prove that, the territory where locates Armenia belongs to Azerbaijan.

Later on, Director of National Museum of Azerbaijan History Academician Naila Velikhanli, a corresponding member of RAS Rauf Munchayev and others stated that, to study of archeological heritage of Karabakh is of importance and actual.

Conference continued its work on plenary sessions. Following lectures will be listened at the event: "Archaeological research in the years of independence in Karabakh", "Virtual Karabakh History Museum" etc.

Event attendees will have a tour to the archeological monuments in Baku and surroundings as well as “Ateshgah Temple”State Historical-Architectural Reserve.
