Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

The Green Planet brigade, consisting of students from the secondary school No. 151 of Nasimi district of Baku, made an excursion to the Institute of Genetic Resources of ANAS.

The excursion was held within the framework of the ecological month on the topic "Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and Biodiversity".

The scientific secretary of the Institute, Ph.D. in biology Saida Sharifova and the chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists Mahammad Eldarov told the students about the history, activities and achievements of this scientific institution.

Further, the head of the Department of Ecobotany and Systematics, Dr.Sc. Aydin Asgarov spoke about the rich plant genetic resources of Azerbaijan, their collection and methods of botanical research.

Schoolchildren were also introduced to the Herbarium Foundation of the Institute, the National Gene Bank, in which are stored seed resources of over a thousand plants, as well as experimental field sites.
